I'd say the long funding time is what's made this seem slower. They recommend 30 days for that reason - it makes people feel like time's running out!

I'd expect to see a lot more movement in the next few days. Great project and good luck - lovely seeing something different being done.
Thanks for your kind words Jocu.

These transformation decks are getting appreciation from art critics, leading illustrators, and Disney animators. Kevin Yu came on board as a backer and he even offered for collaborating & use his knowledge and experience in making a creative tuck box. Murphys Magic had said this a few months back "With your next project, please keep me in mind, I would love to discuss options before you go to print."

This is the first time I received an email from Lawrence Sullivan (Legends Playing Cards) who enquired if I was still looking to print this deck and select a vendor.

I'd started exploring the option of printing one deck or both through collaboration with Uusi through their Artist Series.

I am sure I don't have to utilize any of the above now as we are already 92% funded. As Eric mentioned in the other thread, GPCC doesn't have the following similar to the stalwarts like JR, Alex, Lorek, Lorenzo, Gio etc. and that's okay to me. All previous decks got a lot of love from backers, and I've always tried to go above n beyond for them. Feeling happy & content with whatever I've got. Counting my blessings.

People have their own reasons to like or dislike something. Transformation decks may not be for everyone as I know there are a few here who look for playability and it becomes difficult with transformation decks.

Looking good @ 90+% funded now.

Idiots will spend $50+ on a crappy Fontaine deck and this campaign still hasn't reached its goal yet lmfao. This world is simply doomed.

Wow, so happy that you're finally getting the recognition from your peers! It really couldn't happen to a better person. BTW Is that true? An Uusi Collaboration? Oh pls make that happen. It'll be so nice to get decent priced Uusi poker decks! (Only other thing that'll be better than that would be to finally get a new Emmanuel Jose deck! )

Hi Eric,

Thanks. Had started exploring in case Motley Pack failed on KS but seems like it will fund. I was even thinking to donate the artwork to Uusi.

On the decent pricing, it would have depend on Uusi and how they price their decks. It may not have been decently prices if coming from Uusi.

Reg. Emmanuel Jose, it might come this year, who knows :)

    Thanks @TwoPiece.

By the way, the hardcover edition is not simply am artbook or artwork, it has a dramatic fictional story weaved around 40 transformation cards. Original in 1875 had illustrations in pen & ink while in this edition, all images will be in color.

You might want to check a sample page of the book here.

    Need advice...

The original book has got a number of advertisements by different businesses which I think used to be usual practice for Christmas Annuals. Do you know Arthur Conan Doyle introduced the characters Sherlock Holmes and his friend Watson through a Christmas Annual published in 1887?

Anyways, I am thinking to offer advertisement space in the book to businesses with a condition that the advertisements need to be either in text or if there is an illustration, it needs to be in a vintage style so that it fits the book as a whole.

Here are some examples of different advertisements in the original.

    Screen Shot 2019-02-05 at 10.07.04 PM.png (482.03 KiB) Viewed 2505 times
How should I price the ad space? I already have noted down a few businesses in Australia & US (at least) that I will be reaching out to. Does anyone know what is the ad cost in Clear the decks magazine by 52 plus Joker? Just want to know how the ad space is prized.

The things thatmay go against such a reward tier is that lack of awareness of this book & a very limited print run of 500. For the latter, I can offer that any mass market version (if it happens) will have your ad again. It is still a part of Playing Card History as well as Australia, in particular.

At this stage, apart from a few backers who added the book as an add-on, copies of the book will go to State Library, Melbourne and the University of North Carolina in US. The latter has an interest because they already have the original edition of the book in their rare archives. The value proposition for businesses is that due to it being on Kickstarter, its reach is wider, playing card collectors are all around the world and the book is not confined to collectors alone. It has an engaging story based on 40 transformed cards so anyone who is looking for a good story and an awesome art should get this book.

It may not be known now, but I am sure as the word of mouth goes out after backers start receiving it, it will make its own place.

Please let me know your thoughts on the above, and how should I price the advertising space? Don't want to make it very high and not too low as well.

Edit: Thinking to reach out to USPCC, EPCC, LPCC, Cartamundi, Murphys Magic etc. apart from my initial list to see if they will be interested in having their advertisements in the book. Is that a good idea?

I have no idea about ad pricing, but I love your idea of replacing the ads with current brands, and in a vintage look. Another great idea, Sunish!

Looking at how other charge shipping....seems like I should just follow their trail. I don't think shipping cost has been important to backers. If they are happy paying through their nose and not ask any question, then so be it.

The fact that GPCC, your decks and your projects are all created to appeal to the much wider world market by not only exploring new & different cultural themes but also by keeping us international folks in mind when setting-up a campaign and it's shipping options so we can all equally appreciate it's products is exactly what makes GPCC stand out as a producer and makes the KS projects / the decks you create so special and awesome to be a part of!! Please, I beg of you, don't alienate us international folks as other producers (even international ones themselves) often do because it's easier and/or more cost efficient to have only us bear all the shipping costs so they can still provide free shipping to US backers.

yea, that's also why I greatly commend and have much more respect for those international designers/producers that at least make the honest effort to try and accommodate other international folks - even if only in their own homeland - instead of just succumbing to providing shipping options that only benefit the US market. I know it's taking things to a personal level, but regardless of other factors, I hold these designers in a higher regard, which also makes me can't help but feel just a slight ping of contempt for those that don't even make the effort considering that they themselves know what it's like to be in this hobby as an enthusiast abroad with all the other various challenges - not just higher shipping costs - that go with it... and yet, still don't even try to ease those difficulties a little bit in regards to how they choose to offer shipping... smh :|

I never back decks where I have to pay a lot of shipping. I happily backed this deck Guru as it was very reasonable but there’s no way I would’ve paid double.

Some producers and designers will get backers regardless of shipping costs but you need to sail your own ship on this one, it could really hurt future campaigns to hike shipping as it basically eliminates the value of 1/2 deck pledges which are a big chunk of most campaigns.

Shipping is never ‘free’, but it’s a cost that absolutely can be absorbed by designers if they plan it effectively.

There’s also the fact that passing all charges onto backers makes a mess of your campaign goal as there’s sudddenly 25% less funds than you think if you only just get to your goal. It can leave you with a huge shortfall that you end up having to pay anyway except you’ve got magnet 15% less backers than if you offered it free or reduced.

Seriously, I'd like to interview those customers and understand their needs & wants while trying to create their customer persona. These are ideal customers but I think another set of customers are like us who value their hard earned money and tend to make rational decisions on product choices. On the other hand, playing card creators need to be more responsible- creating hype based on paper stock or foil or limiting the numbers is uncalled for. Don't know what will happen when this bubble will burst.

I've also been guilty of this, I feel sorry too. Been contemplative lately on the state of playing card collecting world.

I remember seeing this thread a year ago, do check out when you've time. Comments are insightful too.

Lots of complaints about shipping costs lately, here and in the Invocation thread. I'm well aware I'm spoiled being in the US but I'm not sure what the other options would be - shipping consolidators could work, but then you've got storage costs and a waiting period. Problem is that shipping is just going to get more expensive - where's the breaking point?

Also about free US shipping: because playing cards are paper, they can be sent with special 'media mail' rates in the US - anything under 1 lb is $2.75 between any two points in the country. (I don't know anything about commercial rates but they're even cheaper.) Now let's compare with Bpost in Belgium where Cartamundi is - the cheapest prices I see on their website are €4.70 within Belgium and €16.40(!!!) to nearby Europe. In Australia it looks like small packages start around AU$8.50. Point is, us Americans are really spoiled when it comes to postage costs.
