Help IDing Deck

Unread post by Modi »

Picked this up at Goodwill for $0.50 a couple of days ago and haven't been able to find anything on the net about it.ImageImageImage

It's an Ohio USPCC deck, Bridge sized, Z date code so I'm assuming 1999. Front and rear of the tuck are the same, sides and top just say "Playing Cards" bottom USPCC info. Any help in naming the design, brand, whatever would be appreciated.

I would guess these are a generic magic deck of some sort. Have you looked closely at the cards to see if they are tapered, or modified in some other way? Decks with a back like that are often included in magic kits, along with other trick devices.

I had thought about them being a magic deck, if they are tapered it's so subtle I can't tell, but I've never actually held a deck that I knew was tapered, so I'm not sure how noticeable it would be. I Also scanned the backs of 2 cards and flipped back and forth looking for differences, none that I can find, so I don't think it's marked. It still wouldn't surprise me if it's a magic deck and I just don't know what I'm looking for, lol. Mainly I was hoping to ID it so I could list it in the PCDB.

If it was tapered, or had every second card short, as in a svengali deck, you would be able to tell. Turning a portion of the cards around will show a taper difference right away, even when it's slight.

I couldn't find the deck anywhere in the World Web Playing Card Museum >> USPCC section. Something about it is familiar, but I can't nail it down.
Sorry, I'm not much help.

Found this deck in the WWPCM ,They are in the USPCC Advertising deck with standard courts section, dated 2002 (d10082)
there is no information except that the deck is dated 1996 & 2002  .
Strange that the back has no Advertising, but it Look`s like a bowling ball head on the Ace, and the joker has bowling balls in his hands and on his foot, so i`m guessing maybe advertising some kind of Bowling product or an Alley maybe..
only a guess i`m afraid...sorry i can`t be more help

Good call Jase. :) Guess I didn't look far enough.
Now that you mention it the three holes in the right hand ball do make it look like a bowling ball. Perhaps that's the name you could use Modi - Bowling advertising deck - until and unless more is known?

Somehow I kept thinking the joker was wielding a ping pong paddle with his foot

Wow, that's awesome, my thanks to both of you. Bowling definitely didn't occur to me. Although neither did advertising, as there isn't really much here.
