El Salvador

Naipes El Borrego
Country: El Salvador

The deck that started it all! The design has remained consistent as far as my dad and I can tell. Same deck he played with as a child, same deck I grew up with. Slight modifications have been made through the years. Mainly with the card stock. The paper we remember was a very rough and porous material. Similar to handmade paper. We would jokingly call it "El Mascon" because with time and use, the cards would fluff up, make the deck double and almost triple in size; giving it the appearance of a dishwashing sponge.
