Re: THUNDERDOME!!

I'll tell you why I cringe. Using "retarded" as a way to describe "something" or "somebody" as idiotic or stupid is offensive because it has been co-opted to describe a class of people. I'll put it another way: Retard means to hold back, or delay. Which has been used, a...

No th4mo, not one of yours. Work within the world of people with disabilities (I do), and you'll quickly see how that word has a very painful history - whether you've experienced it or not - whether you subscribe to it or not. And it doesn't matter if it's against a person or a thing. I like to beli...

Yep, agreed. The "sparkle" was lost in the newer artwork. So far I haven't found out why this happened.

Btw - lots of fun going through your card collection.

Went looking for an Agatha Christie gift for my nephew and found these: Artwork by Ilya Milstein, a NYC artist. Published by Lawrence King, London, 2023. A small booklet provides a little background information for each card: Diamonds = Treasures; Hearts = Clues; Clubs = Murders; Spades = Detectives...

Re: The Troubadeck: Cards to Inspire Songwriting [KS]

So, except for a $150 pledge for three customized, signed decks (or whatever the offering is), are these otherwise unavailable, or is there another mechanism for getting just a simple, regular deck of these cards? A musician friend of mine who teaches music to children might really enjoy these.

A collection of decorated Dondorf backs, c1860-1933. In no particular order, and not to scale. I started in chronological order but abandoned that pretty quickly. Edit: I goofed earlier - a handful of these (not just one) are from short decks, and a handful are from packs with more than one back des...

Dondorf, Luxus Club Karte, 1900-1933. The two decks I have date 1906-1916. Braun describes them as "Old," (first picture) and "New," (second picture) but without dating when they changed. Although the courts were redrawn at some point, Braun lists both as Variant 1 - as they shar...

eBay actually does have an AI button now

OH NO. No. NO.
Might as well paint the world grey and get it over with.

Disclaimer: I'm not against grey. It's nice, when used by Ansel Adams. Or if something is supposed to be a rock.

"Up for auction is a pack of playing cards, which you can play with. They are smooth and flat and have pictures of kings, queens, and servants on them so you have something to look at. You can use them to play poker, or bridge, or Hearts like so many people around the world. Or you can use them...

Fantasy Rococo deck in French suits, Modiano patience cards, Italy, 1944. These courts first appeared about 1895 as an advertising pack for Austrian Lloyd Steamship Company. I like the presentation on that website (artbookstores), reminds me (very very loosely) of an Ishihara test.

If you can see a deck of cards you're an ephemerist.

Thank you both. I keep a handful of reverse image search tools on the dock. An unfortunate sidebar in my business is content theft. I thought it would be kind of fun to bring my search up with others. I remember now asking some time ago in these forums about the card on the right (the QD). If a card...

A similar slasher film was done for Winnie the Pooh, rated as “worst film ever” and “so bad its good” with terrible acting, no character development, plot holes, etc - something it seems we can expect for each of these types of properties at this point. “For love of honey” was the name I think…. No...

If you are an Elaine Lewis fan, she has a new deck on the way - best (only?) way I am aware to get them is to join EPCS: https://www.epcs.org/ and ask to be put on the list for them. Thanks for the heads-up. Is that information somewhere on their website (Can't find it myself). Did you find this in...
