Israel

Unread post by samurai007 »

I believe the Israeli deck has been posted by others here before, it's the Jacob's Bible deck. It says "Made in Israel" and "Lion Playing Card Co." on the AoS. I found some scans online so I'll just link to those rather than scan my own in to save time:

However, my decks are a bit special because they came in a carrying case. These are now scans of my actual decks in the case, which also says it was made in Israel. It's not in the greatest shape, but it is still quite nice:

I'm not sure if the case came with it originally or not. It was made in Israel too, and came with it in the ebay auction, but the case says "Orient", as you can see, and nothing on it points directly to Jacob's Bible. I wonder if a tourist or a gift shop in Israel put the 2 things together after-market?

Pirate Playing Cards
Designed by Vitaly Fishilevich
of Kipod Tattoo & Piercing in Tel aviv
2011

One of my favourite decks, this one lives in the art drawer of my collection. I don't know how these were printed up but they are much thicker than regular cards. Compared to a Bike deck this deck is 14 cards thicker.

The cards are consistent in colour, any variation is from my old scanner.

I first bought this deck as "Collectible Old School Pirate Tattoo Playing Cards" on ebay in April of 2011, which must have been around the time it was released. That deck had no tuck then but when I contacted the Kipod studio recently to buy a second deck with a box, they were kind enough to throw in an extra box for my first deck.

The idea for these playing cards came from Vitaly Fishilevich's childhood love of pirate stories and hidden treasures. As an adventurous young boy he imagined the cards that the pirates themselves used to play with while drinking rum at sea. This was the inspiration for Vitaly's custom deck of Pirate playing cards.

A recurring motif is the symbolism of life and death, and there are references in the cards to the subjects of Voodoo, and of Spanish conquistadors, amongst others.

The black and white artwork can be used as a sampler of tattoo flash designs and is made in the style of Calavera art (sugar skulls).

Decks of these cards can be purchased online from the Kipod Tattoo Studio in Tel Aviv.

My first deck did not have a box but it came with these great Kipod stickers. They are 4" in diamteter.

Very cool deck! A shame the back wasn't as creative as the fronts, though.

Yes I think he tried too hard to be traditional with the back. I always thought a treasure map back, with the red X that marks the spot being right in the middle of the back, would have worked. It could have been a 2 way back while suggesting an environment or destination for the figures n the cards.

I sent you a PM Widdee, but I also tried to make the purchase info a little clearer in the posting itself.

Yeah the ebay price is way inflated. The studio sells them for $20, including shipping from Israel.

Aren't they super heavy stock. Thickest cards I have, including the giant sizes.

Got my package too. I'll post the tuck later tonight. It came in a flattened state - not having been glued together yet.

Very thick deck. Mine came in the tuck but no cello wrap. The art is fantastic.
