Re: Sweden
I have a set of cards almost identical to yours but with Sweden's flag on the back, and it has been played with.
Esselte is/was a huge sprawling company with many different divisions and products. Sounds like they were even competing with themselves at one point.

Perhaps somewhere in there they owned Obergs as well. J.O. Öberg & Son was it's own company from the 1920s through to 1958, from some of the vintage decks I have seen online.

Re: Sweden
"Spelkort" being svedish for "Playing Cards" or just "Cards", works for me. "spillekort" in Danish/dansk as well. "Kong Christian X" being 'King' in Danish makes me wondering what they called "King Kong"? Kong Kong? Not certain, frankly.

Re: Sweden
Hey, I can actually contribute to this section for once
I present to you - Anglo's:
Taken from my failed wiki project - more info at http://playingcards.wikidot.com/others:anglo. I would take some more/better photos, but I can't until I get home for the summer (sometime in May).

Welcome to the Worldwide MF
Glad you added these. I have a few of their Blackjack and Poker Edition '09 decks. They have a kind of heavy and substantial feel to them like they are denser than a usual deck.
I like that lesser known back design you show in the wiki. Was that design used on regular decks or only on the Giant Deck?

Re: Sweden
Yes, it has been used on regular decks. Did some digging and found them at cards4magic and Gycklaren (the Swedish store I bought mine from originally, who I think is the main distributor of Anglo's).dazzleguts wrote:Welcome to the Worldwide MF

Re: Sweden
I have, in the past, bought some pairs of sealed/unused Oberg decks from the '30's '40's and '50's to go with a Bofors Group pair I bought sealed, (ages ago) not knowing it was Oberg, with Non Standard Courts, as it turned out .... These from the '60's.
The big problem being that my photo's get rejected for too many pixels/too large, whatever it is.
I like these Obergs, but until I discover how to post graphics we shall just clump around in the dark eh ? Well I shall, anyhoo.
