Pretty good, I have no big issues with the design. Pretty good just does not cut it anymore at 2017.

I like this and I think it makes the cut in 2017. But the price ($14 USD shipped for 1 EB) does not.

Hi,

Thanks for posting my project here, and thanks for the comments.
I agree about the prices for one and two decks are a bit too high in comparison to 3 or more decks, so I have decided to extend the 'limited' pledge tiers of 1 and 2 decks to the end of the project.
Any other feedback about Essentia is appreciated.
I just hope it gets funded, even though its not running very quickly at this moment.

Tuck is too boring. The pips are ok, the artwork is good but looks too plain or childish I should say. It's like a 3 out of a 5.

Thanks for the feedback, I will keep these points in mind. Great to hear opinions from different people and compare them to see which design choices work and which don't.

I cancelled the project today because it wasn't going to make it unfortunately. I will work on a relaunch though with some changes to the design. I will post them soon here! Thanks to the ones that supported this project.

As promised, I made some revisions on the design. I started with the queen of diamonds and I wanted to create version with a bit more details, without losing the simplistic style.
Eyes have a big influence on the look of a character, so I changed the eyes to a more detailed version, and added some extra details on the body and hair. Overall, it still keeps the same simplistic style.

What do you think?

Hello Mankin - my 2 cents.

You need to add more contrast between the skin color. I suggest to use a darker tone for the face details (nose, lips etc) or even try with white skin tone (of course you'll have to change the color of the white-haired courts).

I like this design a lot. It's similar to a style I've used a lot, in the past (Evil Deck uses the same logic) - the only thing is not working at all, in my humble opinion, is the skin color :-)

Have a great day

Thanks for the feedback Rousselle and Giovanni, I actually got the same feedback on the skin tones from a couple of other people.
I have tried the white skin like you mentioned, but I did not really like the result. So I have made the facial lines a bit darker and the skin tone a bit lighter.
I think it is an improvement.

I also made the same skin color changes on the jack of diamonds, along with some minor color changes on the body. I also added some details and replaced the eyes that match the style of the queen of diamonds.

PS: Yes your Evil Deck is also made in flat design style, it is a great original deck =)

I redesigned the jack of hearts, because I think it did not have the same detail level as the other courts.
Here is the result, what do you think?

backdesign_comparison.jpg
I'm finished with the courts and jokers and continued to work on the back design. I'm pretty happy with the global design of the new version, hope you like it too.

But I have a hard time to decide which variation of this new version is the best. So please let me know which version you like best: v1, v2, v3 or the old version.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I like v1. But I'd also like v3 if it were full bleed. I'm not usually a full bleed kinda guy so that's why I like v1 better.

I also like full bleed in general, and these types of patterns do work well as full bleed. But I feel like the designer/creator has often envisioned it a certain way (e.g. bordered) from the start, and I respect that.

I also liked the old one. Of the new ones, I like v2 THE LEAST. If bordered, it doesn't need a frame inside of that. I know it's a common practice on back designs, but I feel like it just doesn't do anything other than diminish the impact of the main pattern.

I am not a fan of the sharp corner border.

Legends is a good choice for border registration.

@ TwoPieceFeed
The back design was the most difficult to decide on. Lots of people liked different versions, but after a lot of discussion with fellow designers I decided on this. Can't please everyone unfortunately :)

The fulfillment for this project should begin at the end of July, which should mean that these will get delivered on August, which was the original delivery date. Mankin also added silver foil to the tuck box, despite the fact that the campaign didn't reach that stretch goal, which really speaks about the creator.

This deck is looking like a good purchase and Mankin not only a talented designer, but also a jolly good chap. I really hope to see a new deck soon!
