Music Box Playing Cards

Unread post by jerichoholic »

This is a new deck launching tomorrow, Jan 7, on Kickstarter from CPC. It will feature gold foil embossing and a tuck case that actually plays music when opened! I'm guessing EPCC printed though that hasn't been confirmed.

Cool concept. Too bad I don't open my decks so the novelty would be lost on me.

I like CPC. I'm not a fanboy of CPC, by any stretch, but I like what they do and I often back their projects. I like how they regularly produce some fun, light variations on the Bicycle deck (the most recent Denim deck is an example that I appreciate), and then they occasionally go out on a limb to try something more boldly different (my most recent favorite example is the VHS deck.)

The concept of this one seems like it should be one of their more interesting ones. And yet, as shown, their design is too evocative of the Elite/Mayhem scripty scrollwork, and for some reason, I've just really turned off of that particular... aesthetic. So, while I like the *idea* of the music box tuck, I don't think I'll be backing this one.

CPC makes 1 good deck out of 10. I also enjoyed the VHS and Bicycle Denim deck so we'll see if this one makes the cut.

My thoughts exactly. Cool concept, but I'd expect lackluster cards inside that box and a premium price tag as well. Likely a pass, let's see tomorrow.

This is now live, not sure I'm a fan of the artificial wood look of the faces but I like the backs and the number cards... still on the fence.

I'm on the fence too. On my cell phone, I could see the difference between the hearts/diamonds (yellowish) and clubs/spades (white) but on the computer, not so much. The hearts and diamond need to be brightened up a little more but I don't think CPC would do it since the cards are probably already made.

I think everything else look good, the price isn't bad. The gold foil embossing really needs to pop also if the music ever stops playing, that'll be ok to in the long or short run.

This was an expensive deck and while the tuck bringing in a jingle is a nice idea, I'm a card guy much more than a tuck guy. The design of the deck itself didn't speak to me unfortunately. I'd like to see it make a come back with some overall deck redesign.
TL:DR It's completely up to you.

I actually like playing cards.

There's a key printed at the bottom of the box now...

I received my two Music Box Playing Card decks today, 15-June-2017, and they are beautiful Collector's Pieces.

A very clever idea, even if the price was a bit steep (haven't told the wife just how much they were...), but I can easily see where my 110/1000 unopened deck might go up in value as time goes by.

While my 381/1000 deck, that I just had to open to hear the box play, will have to be my display copy.

A novelty for sure, but the very first of their kind; and they are impressive.
