CLOSED: Decks Missing & Layout Bug

Unread post by 4.of.Clubs »

I've noticed that some decks have gone missing in the P52 DB. I'm not sure if it had to do with the server crash that happened recently.

The weird thing is, if I'm logged in and I check my collection (http://www.portfolio52.com/collection/354/images/custom), I will see white spaces for the decks that used to exist in the DB. But if I view the collection as a visitor, the blanks don't show. I guess the layout it pulls when you're logged-in is different than when you view other people's collection?

In those 4 blank spaces below, it used to be the other 4 Patriotic decks (army/marines/etc). Now they are no longer in the DB.
Untitled.jpg
In the blank space below, it used to be the gold steampunk deck.
Untitled.jpg
ecNate, this is that issue you helped me look into last time (https://www.unitedcardists.com/viewtopi ... =58&t=8304).
Now I know why you didn't see the blank, but it's still there. It's the duplicate deck you deleted (Street Arts deck right before the blank).
111.jpg
In the 2 blank spaces below, the left one should be the Blue version of the cupid back on its left, can't remember what the blank on the right should be but I can check my box.
222.jpg
So all in all, there are 2 issues.

1. Some decks have gone missing in the DB, these are the ones I've noticed, there could be lots more.

2. When you have a deleted deck in your "Custom Ordering" view, it'll leave a blank space instead of removing the deck from the layout.

Let me know if I can provide more info. Thanks!

I guess this should be in "Support Requests / Bug Reports" instead, if a mod sees this, please move the thread!

So I think I figured a few things out. First it seems that I can not see the same missing decks as you do when I look at your collection using that view as seen below. However, if I use the list view I can see them and really this is the better way to resolve anyhow. That way you can pretty quickly scroll through the list to see the empty images (as opposed to non-image image) and also see the name of the deck.

From this I see your missing decks are:

Cupid Back Red and Gold [Bicycle]
Cupid Back Blue and Gold [Bicycle]
Bicycle Come to Chew
Steampunk Bronze (non-embossed tuck) [Bicycle]
Patriotic Army
Patriotic Navy
Patriotic Coast Guard
Patriotic Marines

The next step would be to search and see if it still exists under a new node (aka duplicate removed) which is the case for come to chew. For the others, that is more of a concern. I did mention to Alex I had about 5 from my collection that were suddenly gone and they were old ones, not newly added. Not sure if somebody with access is deleting or if there is something wrong, but it should be looked into.

Anyhow, if you can confirm they don't exist the next thing is to re-create them. If you use the view source or inspect element you can find out the node ID of the missing deck. For example - http://www.portfolio52.com/node/65692. The reason this may help is because while you know the deck name you could recreate from that, but there is a chance you can then use the Google cache location to easily recreate instead of re-typing and re-scanning. This worked for me to recreate mine, but I can't get any of the usual web cache's to work for some reason on the few specific decks I tried in yours. It should work like this though, just replace the node ID -http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... m/node/434. Perhaps they had not been cached yet, but you could try other sources....maybe easier just to re-enter.

Thanks, I did try the alphabetical view, didn't think to check List View.

I can re-scan the decks and add them back in that's not a problem. I'm more concerned about decks disappearing.

Also, any thoughts on "2. When you have a deleted deck in your "Custom Ordering" view, it'll leave a blank space instead of removing the deck from the layout."? Seem like the deck needed to be removed from the collection prior to deleting it from the DB, or on delete it would go through the layout content in actual database to remove those nodes. (Although if that happened, we won't be able to see decks might be missing like we're seeing now).

So, it turns out that node ID is the one from your collection. You need to do a Google search using the deck name and portfolio 52 to find the actual node ID and then hopefully it will have the cached page. In doing some more digging and talking with Alex the assumption is that a page of decks when listed in the database was deleted somehow, possibly related to space issues from spammers. I noticed a bunch missing were sequential which matched Alex's assumption and then also found a google cache page that seems to show this.

So I believe everything between 1551 and 1576 possibly went missing, it's possible some were properly deleted or node ID never used, but most likely this is the set.

Quite a few of them do still show up with all images and content in Google cache for easy copy/paste to manually recreate:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... /node/1573 - ADDED
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... /node/1575 - ADDED

This set is missing from Google cache, but a cache of the pages listings still works so it's possible to know what is missing there. For these it's simplest to view the source of the listings cache (3 links below), and then seach for the number. Copy the deck title and download/upload the tuck images. That's all we can do here other than a quick search for more information to include.

EDIT 3 - I also found 1370, 1541 and unknown 'Tarabish' decks were also missing...not sure why random ones are missing outside the sequence set. I did check the snapshots at web archives and didn't see any declines in total decks for the set of dates I viewed, so still isolated it seems.
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... /node/1370 - ADDED

Tarabish was seen in dazzleguts' listing as empty, but no cache exists to determine ID or prior content. At least she had a thread found via Google - ADDED

I will try and recreate these this weekend if I have time, but if somebody else gets a head start let me know. Please first do a search in the active P52 to be sure it wasn't already re-added though. BTW - This helps for converting long titles to mixed case, although since P52 currently shows in all caps nobody will notice, but I'm OCD and like to change them in case it changes in the future. https://convertcase.net

I also did quickly go through Victor's list since he has the most and no new missing decks were discovered there.

I'm glad we were able to recover these. I'm working very hard to ensure the new platform won't have to deal with any of the possible spam on the database and to avoid this type of stuff in the future. Growing pains happen. Rest assured that the rest of the content is safe and that regular back ups still occur. I just wanted to give a huge thank you for Nate for helping out and finding this. Truly this is awesome and this site is lucky to have your help Nate! :D

I can help add them back in as well. Glad to take some load off from Nate.

Still have the question on how to remove the old nodes in our custom or list layout? Is there a way to re-create these with the old node id without too much enhancement to the Add a Deck page? I assume the node ids right now are generated with a sequence, maybe allow to override the id with a new field?

All KNOWN missing decks have been re-added to the database.

It's probably simplest to browse your list view, just click the related buttons from your profile page (or manually add '/list/alphabetical' after your user ID in the URL, for example here is mine - http://www.portfolio52.com/collection/3 ... phabetical" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Once there just quickly scan your entire list, loading more decks as needed from the button on the bottom, to see if you have any listings totally missing any image. This is the best indication you have a deck in your collection that was removed. You'll need to search for that deck again and re-add it. Here is a screenshot of what to look for, note the missing images and how the titles are also moved to the left (an entry without a deck scan will still have an empty slot and the titles in the proper position in this view).

Re: Decks Missing & Layout Bug

Thanks Nate! We all appreciate your effort in maintaining the site very much! I know I at least go on it once every day.

I think I'm learning this system a bit more, the data structure wasn't what I thought it was. I'm sure Nate or Alex can help explain this better.

I originally thought all "nodes" are just each deck in the database. Now I'm realizing that each node can also be a deck in your collection. Ex. for Deck XYZ, there will be a node # assigned to it (123) when it's created, but when it's added to a user's collection, it'll create another node (1234) specifically for the user/deck combination.

Since I'm OCD and the blank spaces really bothered me, I kept trying to find the deck-node and remove it but since the deck is deleted, I couldn't find them. Turns out I needed to remove the user-node collection count, I found these node by looking at the source code of the page and searching through that.

Now I have a PUURTY collection page again! :ugdance:

Did you miss my update about that earlier in this thread? ;)

EDIT - Sorry about this, in looking at it again I wasn't as clear as I thought I was - added that from phone. You are correct, you need to edit it for your specific entry. I would caution against using the delete option since a person could easily get mixed up and delete the wrong one. Editing your collection node and changing the count to 0 should also remove it without risk of accidentally deleting the wrong one.
ecNate wrote:Thanks! I think if you manually look it up and then edit it you can change the collection count there. Worked for me anyway

I do believe that is something new though as I don't recall it being the case before and one of the features we lost from the old PCDB days is being able to re-name your specific deck in your collection or add comments about it without impacting ALL users by updating the deck entry. I can only assume the ground work is being laid to allow that and other long requested features to be added like ranking, etc. However, this is pure speculation on my part and what limited inside knowledge I have is protected by a virtual NDA. ;) Exactly what is being planned or when it might happen I don't know, but I'm sure all will be revealed when the time is right and whatever features are available. Although yes the only way to remove your deleted stub from your collection is to edit your specific node (get the ID and manually create the URL from the list view by inspecting the element) and delete it from there, where you'll see some EXPERIMENTAL/TEMPORARY new options.

NOTE TO ALL - Do NOT assume you can start making personal updates at this time, it's not enabled yet may be radically changed/removed and you may lose data or muck up the main entry, so just don't. I'm just saying it would allow it to happen in the future from a purely technical feasibility perspective! There have also been some platform/development tool changes and possibly more to come so another reason for us not to get ahead of Alex and his developers.
