Would have been nice if they put this up at the same time as the other deck. Shouldn't have to pay for shipping twice

Just got this and it's a pretty interesting deck. Back design is borderless and features the skyline. It's a very slight one way back due to not being properly centered design wise. Also in case anyone is wondering it is printed in China so the quality is not the usual Legends quality. I don't know why Legends and Expert print the odd deck in China when the quality is not as good.

Can you show a pic of the back?

Though you say that the quality is not the usual LPCC quality, how does it stand up to other 'lesser' quality manufacturers such as MPC?

I would imagine that LPCC/EPCC print in China to keep costs down...as this deck was a collaboration with SCAD University, I am sure that the budget was quite low.

Let me chime in here.

I don't think it is about keeping costs down. I can't say anything for LPCC/EPCC obviously but my personal experience and quotes I've seen from both Taiwan & China printers is that they are both on par with each other. There is no difference when you ask for the quote directly from these printers rather than going via other companies who will add on top of these figures for their share. In fact, the difference is negligible even if I compare the price with other Asian printer like Angel from Japan. I've heard that certain capabilities in printing is only available in China. Problem in Taiwan is that you may be able to get a quote from the printer but still will be asked to work with the above two to produce a deck, and in majority of cases, they won't even respond for quotation. This has changed since last year after a couple of creators started getting their decks printed from the same printer while not going through Legends or Expert.

I believe the deck in question, may be printed on a different stock so you may need to wait till other decks being printed in China are done & received by folks here, namely, Legal Tender, TITANS Robber Barron & Innovation.

Also, I'd like to add about MPC. I've done a no. of prototypes with them. I've not seen such a price for a single deck print anywhere but I do understand they are able to offer because of the digital press. Still, the price for printing 1000 or more decks is considerably high (with their linen air stock as an example), than even Legends or Expert or even USPCC. The offered prices can be checked on their site itself and I don't know if creators have gone to them to get a large print run done. Economically, other printers offer a better value for large print runs.

Don't know if that will work.

As far as the quality I would say it is on par with MPC or Noir Arts

I have the Hong Kong Playing Cards deck. I've taken some photos, which I've included below.

Origin

This deck was created as part of a Collaborative Learning Center project between SCAD and Legends Playing Card Company to design a deck inspired by Hong Kong culture. The winners were Adrienne Valdes and Caro with this Hong Kong food inspired deck.

Quality

The deck was created with Legends Emerald Finish. The more popular and higher quality finishes used by Legends are their Diamond Finish, Classic Finish, and Elite Finish, all of which are printed in their factory in Taiwan. Decks with their Emerald Finish are printed by a factory in China, and don't match the same quality of the other three finishes. For one thing, the Emerald Finish decks don't normally have the Diamond Cut finish, although I have heard that the Chinese factory will also be getting this capability. The Emerald Finish cards have a texture that reminds me of the Diamond Finish, although it doesn't match the overall quality of decks in that finish.

Back Design

The back design is a borderless design, with several lines and colours running right to the edges of the cards. This makes it ideal for cardistry - with borders like this, it looks terrific when doing spreads and fans.

Court Cards

Most of the cards picture food, but the court cards picture various people eating the food pictured elsewhere in the deck.

Each of the suits does have a separate theme - as you can see with the Spades here, all the characters pictured on the card are eating the same food: something from a brown paper bag.

Food

The culinary diversity and delights of Hong Kong food is featured on the number cards, with the number of items on the card corresponding to the number. But the Aces have the "choicest" items - I'll leave it to you to decide whether or not you think what you see here looks appetizing!

Jokers

The Jokers are full art cards, and don't make up a diptych.

This certainly is a most unusual deck!

In case anyone is interested, I've put together a more detailed review with lots of pictures and more information over here:
