Vasta
No worries, I understand re your requirements.
I discussed it about 2 hours ago with my colleague and am happy to report....we are going to make an option of a deck with a traditional tuck for the VXD KS launch. I'll just add that to the long list. It had to be done at some point I think anyway.
Now, I better be off to the supermarket to buy that crate of Red Bull...

Would be awesome if you have separate shipping options for Europeans (and possibly elsewhere in the world), as the US Postal Service has become increasingly expensive over the past few years. Assuming shipping would be comparatively cheaper from Germany to Europe, of course.

Eventually that would be ideal certainly.
With the relatively small numbers we can produce for this first ever edition, the work involved in arranging two shipping / distribution points (one in US, one in Europe) will not provide us additional efficiency. This time everything will likely be sent out to backers from the North Carolina warehouse.

A deck a day helps keep the addiction at bay!

Ditto. The oddly shaped box stopped me from backing the Red Eyes. Happy to hear a standard shaped tuck will be an option with these.shermjack wrote:This is very good news and will be backing for a couple of each at launch!VXD wrote: I discussed it about 2 hours ago with my colleague and am happy to report....we are going to make an option of a deck with a traditional tuck for the VXD KS launch. Red Eyes did have a standard tuck too but added it later in their campaign which was too late. They should have done both tuck options at the start to possibly succeed.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Re: !!!===== VERTEX DECK ======!!!
Thanks all (re recent posts on tuck option).
Just noticed the 'Thanks' button too on here...must use that in future.
I have a question for anyone that has been here a long time and can make a good guess....just wondering what you estimate is the proportion of collectors & cardists on here % wise. I.e would you say 60% collectors, 40% cardists etc ???
Pressing the 'Thanks' button in advance...

Re: !!!===== VERTEX DECK ======!!!
I agree with sms69x. There's definitely some overlap, I'm sure close to everyone here is a collector in one way or another. But, of course, there are several different types of collectors; those who don't open their decks and those who do, just to mention one distinction.

Re: !!!===== VERTEX DECK ======!!!
Yes Magik, I had started to gather that as well. From what I can gather Vasta is display-only as well as Justin O, for example....is that correct guys?
I can understand both perspectives well too (having spent years putting basketball cards in perspex cases and tracking their value in the Beckett). Obviously playing cards have an array of additional uses though, aside from the display value and also trade value, which makes playing cards a different case of course, but I still understand both angles.
I would normally say it would be a shame not to open a deck of VXD cards when they launch (as they are such a visual product by their nature), but on the other hand, those that resist always have the chance of seeing their value appreciate (a lot in some cases).
Personally, I've so far bought decks 1) to play poker with and 2) to study for my project. But I like having valuable things and now want to collect some existing high value collectors decks (such as the DB Microsoft, Zenith, White Centurions?, Fontaines etc).
So to follow up my last question, if I may.....any guess on display-only members % vs open it members % on here??

Re: !!!===== VERTEX DECK ======!!!
Let me try and help you with a few things here...
HOWEVER, I will not buy a deck of cards that just has an awesome tuck with crap on the inside. Similarly I will not buy a deck of cards with amazing cards and a crappy tuck, as is probably true for most here. But where I might differ is that I don't collect just one type of deck. I feel like there is a need for some decks to still have non-custom courts as a way of paying homage to times past. I feel the same way about Bicycle-branding. But at the same time I would be board to tears if every deck had Bicycle-branding and custom courts. I guess what I'm trying to say is I like variation. No one deck has to have all the elements that make up modern-day custom playing cards just because "you can." A good movie might have action, romance, comedy, drama, horror, adventure, etc. but there's still no substitute for a good action flick. Or comedy. You get the idea.
Not true for me. I very much enjoy displaying my cards but I also play many card games, know many card tricks, and am a halfway decent flourisher (IMHO). I enjoy displaying my cards because I'm not always playing games, doing tricks, and flourishing so I figure, while they're "at rest" why not display them for all to see rather than keeping them tucked away in a shoe box?VXD wrote:Yes Magik, I had started to gather that as well. I don't not open my cards so they will increase in value. I don't not open my cards because I consider them a work of art. And once they're open that art is tainted, never to be the same. I understand that my opinion on this matter is VERY strange and probably differs from most, especially when my argument seems to contradict itself because most of the precious artwork I claim to hold so dear is actually on the inside of the tuck cases. But for whatever reason, in my odd little head I believe that once a deck isn't mint anymore, the novelty wears off for me.VXD wrote:I would normally say it would be a shame not to open a deck of VXD cards when they launch (as they are such a visual product by their nature), but on the other hand, those that resist always have the chance of seeing their value appreciate (a lot in some cases).

Re: !!!===== VERTEX DECK ======!!!
I've been around since 2004 when this place was called Decknique. Back then, it was 85% cardists, 14% magicians, and 1% collectors. We only used Bikes, Tallys, and Bees for the most part, with some interest in vintage decks. Occasionally there would be some discussion as to whether it was worth it to pay $60.00 (the going rate back then) for a deck of Jerry's Nuggets, and only because those cards were featured by the Buck twins in their Trilogy videos. Then someone got a Black Tiger deck and used it in one of their videos and the interest in custom playing cards took off in the cardistry community. I agree with the comments that there is an overlap and would say most cardists are also collectors.VXD wrote:I have a question for anyone that has been here a long time and can make a good guess....just wondering what you estimate is the proportion of collectors & cardists on here % wise. Once the site changed ownership and the name changed to United Cardists, the focus has gradually changed to collecting, especially as custom decks started flooding the market. I would say the breakdown is now 99% collectors, of which maybe 15% are serious about cardistry or magic as well.
This is harder to say. My guess is that 90% of collectors do open their decks, and maybe 10% are hardcore collectors that never open them and only keep decks sealed and mint. The only thing for sure is what I can say for myself. I always try to buy multiple decks if available (at least 3) so that I can open up and use a couple but will always keep at least one sealed for the collection. For decks I really like, I'll try to buy a brick, if available and reasonably affordable. For me, these are playing cards, meant to be used and enjoyed, not for sitting on some mantle collecting dust. The greatest satisfaction I get as a collector is to crack open a fresh new deck and fondle the cards in my hands, to examine them up close, do some fans and a few other basic cardistry moves, and then use them on poker night. Aside from the sealed versions for my collection, I've opened up and used just about every deck, including Jerry's Nuggets, White Centurions, etc.VXD wrote:So to follow up my last question, if I may.....any guess on display-only members % vs open it members % on here??

This looks really cool. I'm always happy to see new innovations on playing cards.
I hope that if this project is a success, you will do a 100 % custom deck with the same technology.

Yes kind of, sorry. Although this thread was a general one and the VXD Las Vegas is a new edition (although it was fully designed way before the time of this thread actually).
If admin really has to remove one, I would suggest this one, as although it has more queries answered on the product, it more out of date.
