Re: Pantheon from Thirdway Industries - Coming Wed, Oct 12 t
Haha because I'm crazy, basically.
Another option was 1717, but I decided for 1777
Probably like everyone is born on 17th day of a month, I think that the 17 is my lucky number.
I also think that ~1700 are a good number for a project like this: Pantheon is very expensive on my side, compared to my other limited editions (it cost the double of Dedalo Apeiron, for example) so print more than 1000 is helpful for me to recoup expenses. Do more than 1000 decks also increase the number of backers that can have it - I have an estimate of the backers who support me and would like to give the chance to have Pantheon to everyone (I hope I did a correct estimate!). On the other side, I wanted to do a limited edition to make it more precious, especially when the campaign will be over.
A trivia - technically, all Thirdway Industries decks are "limited", since I do a fixed number and I don't do reprints. The max number I produced so far is the Omnia Series and Dedalo (3000 decks per kind)

Re: Pantheon from Thirdway Industries - Coming Wed, Oct 12 t
I checked in 2 minutes early (didn't see Gio's note about launching 5 mins early) and still was #45. I got the EB for two decks but I have to say that I was shocked to see the total was $46 USD. I guess I didn't realize that this was a limited edition. I'm not really a LE kind of collector and this is really outside my budget. I'm going to hang on to it for now but I'm not sure I can justify the cost, regardless of how beautiful Gio's work is. If I decide to drop the two deck EB, I'll be sure to post here in case anyone wants it. In any case, the project is simply stunning and I wish everybody involved the best of luck.

It's not only limited but also has all the bells and whistles one could wish for. Lots of foil and embossing on the tuck and gold foil on the backs of the actual cards and metallic ink on the fronts which I am a sucker for.

Re: Pantheon from Thirdway Industries - Coming Wed, Oct 12 t
@flashcards - pricing is always a difficult subject, and I have to say I was really torn on the decision this time.
As I said before, Pantheon will be my most expensive deck produced so far. It will cost to me the double of Apeiron, that was an expensive deck as well. The cost is due mainly to the foil on the back, the triple foil on box (2 outside, 1 inside) and embossing. There are also other valuable features I haven't revealed yet
I know that is more expensive compared to a "normal" deck - but on the other side, I tried to make it affordable for everyone despite the features. This is my only LE that can be purchased stand alone (on Kicsktarter only, probably after the campaign I'll combine Pantheon with Dedalo).
@JuFiN - Thank you I'm happy you like Pantheon!

From the latest update I don't have a problem with the Golden Wall, all gold foiled backs but I wondered if all foiled violet backs could've worked?

I really liked the contrast of gold and violet on the backs. Woulda been great to have two colors of foil instead of converting the whole back gold. That said more foil is more smiles from me either way!

Hello guys, finally the update!
Golden wall unlocked - more foil on back (and better registration) - Read the full story here:
>> https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/th ... ts/1707746" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A couple of renders:
@Bikefanatic - In technical terms, I think violet foil is possible. I'm using it on the tucks, so I assume it's available on the cards as well (but I haven't verified this) - it was an option, however. The main reason that made me opt for the gold is contrast. I never saw the violet foil in person, and there is the risk it's relatively subtle on the card backs - I want a very bold result on Pantheon! .
The other reason is that Pantheon is about Gods, so I thought that Gold would communicate better the "power" of the characters.

Re: Pantheon from Thirdway Industries - Coming Wed, Oct 12 t
Double foil on the same side I don't think is possible, printing with Epcc - Just Lotrek can do it with his secret techniques
I liked contrast of violet/gold as well, but foil is a lot better than metallic ink - I think this one will be a real improvement when saw in person, especially when fanned/moved.
Also, very important, I decided to do this change also to improve the registration - this is an hint I had both from EPCC than Lotrek (both of them much more expert than me on foil on backs). This is the main, pratical reason I decided to put this stretch goal in a low position and unlock it as soon as possible.
This will probably be the unique important design change to the project - the other stretch goal will be an extra item for all decks

Is it possible to have foil on both sides of the cards (hypothetically)? Don't think I've seen that anywhere.

Re: Pantheon from Thirdway Industries - Coming Wed, Oct 12 t
I must say I did prefer the previous back design! The gold and violet would have worked great. If only you could use double foil on the backs (maybe calling special services from Lotrek).
Though this is a great improvement I can't feel to excited about it. Maybe because we know what EPCC foil will do to the cards, with all the back design showing through the face, and having this amount of foil I'm afraid that on the face of the cards we will have the face and back design....
Great work nonetheless Giovanni.

Re: Pantheon from Thirdway Industries - Coming Wed, Oct 12 t
I knew that some people would prefer the old one, it always happens when there is a strong design change like this one. That's the reason I usually stick with a proposal and I make very few changes during the campaign.sms69x wrote:I must say I did prefer the previous back design! Great work nonetheless Giovanni.
However, even if I agree that the previous design was very good, in the end the new one will be better for pratical reasons.
EPCC is improving in make foil on backs - I decided to do this on Pantheon after I saw Steve Minty's Anubis and Osiris. Hopefully they'll be able to reduce the impact on faces - I can't guarantee anything, of course, but we'll do our best to make Pantheon awesome
Thank you for the feedback & support !

Not to belittle the work of Lotrek, I own several of his special decks, but personally I would definitely prefer a single foil deck printed by a big 3 printer over a double foil deck printed by a non-big 3 printer. The more functional the cards are, the more I enjoy them. Only speaking for myself here though.sms69x wrote:I must say I did prefer the previous back design! @Vasta41 - Right! I saw that deck some time ago, very cool!
I really love foil on both sides, and I may decide to do a deck like this one in future - Pantheon is my first step into "foil on cards" world
@MagikFingerz - Yes, I also perfer stick to a big printing company as well.
They can support me with all the production problems and I can focus on design, the thing I love most
Guys, I'm really amazed about the campaign. Many rewards are already sold out, and we're just on day #2
By the way... someone already guessed what the next stretch goal will be?

Re: Pantheon from Thirdway Industries - Coming Wed, Oct 12 t
First off I want to say that I love this deck, I pledged for it, and I can't wait to own it. Having said that, the more I look at the two backs (original and full-foil) the more I like the 1st one.
I mean doesn't it just POP so much more? And I'm not usually the "conspiracy theory" type but I wonder how much of the full-foiled back decision was actually based around the fact that the EPCC urged Gio to change his design because they couldn't guarantee perfect registration, as Gio eluded to in his KS update?

Now I'm not saying Gio did anything wrong or made a bad decision but that would stink if it were the case because again, that first back is just so damn good. I love foil but I think less is more in this case 100%. I'd like to reiterate that I still love this project. I'm also trying to play devil's advocate in an effort to remain unbiased- if Gio never showed us the original back, would we even consider it? Or would we just be drooling all over the full-foiled back if that's the only back we knew existed as an option? HmmmI had a feedback from EPCC that the full foiled background would be a better choice, because it would have a better registration.

I think with the pictures the contrast on the old backs looks great! That said I don't think images do foil justice and the actual cards will look amazing full foil.

Re: Pantheon from Thirdway Industries - Coming Wed, Oct 12 t
Hello Vasta41,
One of the most important things I learned in those years as designer is that design is based on choices.
When I design a new deck, I always do a lot of color proofs before decide what to produce and what discard. Sometimes options are too good to chose, so I decide to use both (one example, Omnia Oscura and Omnia Illumina). I did a lot of discarded versions of Omnia, Dedalo and Pantheon before I decided what to do - for example, I wanted do Pantheon Blue/Gold before I tried violet, and there are some tuck proofs of Omnia that I'm sure that would be cool to made (and maybe...). I never show anything until I'm almost sure it's the final version, to avoid that people may be upset because I decided the version A instead of B.
Usually I decide basing on my taste - but when a choice is difficult and important, like the Pantheon back, I always put on table all the elements I have, to decide wich option is objectively better: the violet/gold have a better contrast between colors but it may have registration problems, but the full-foiled have an incredible amount of foil (renders are not good as the final result, I think) and less problems. I like both backs, but the second one is more spectacular and have less issues - so I decided for the second one. Also, it's more similar that my first rough idea of Pantheon, that was something like: "I want do a crazy deck with Greek Gods and A LOT of foil on back" :p
Why I decided this during the campaign and not before? I had the feedback from EPCC about the registration problems relatively late, so I needed some time to reorganize and decide what to do.
I also needed to check with them how much it would cost the "second option", that use much more foil on the back to decide. When I verified that the second option was resonable and safer, I decided to unlock is as the first stretch goal. I hoped to had more time to decide, but 20k arrived faster than I thought ... so I took this decision yesterday night
It was not an easy decision, I knew in advance that someone would had liked the previous version more.
I hope it helps to understand a little more the project and it's a nice story to read. I'm always happy to share some stories with you guys
In the end I think it will be great. Even if I'm a big fan of metallic ink, a full foil back will be incredible to see.
P.s. the effect of the violet metallic ink on the faces of Pantheon is very similar to the green metallic ink I used on Omnia Perduta. If you want to see how it would look, this is the best example
Thanks for the feedback and the awesome support!

Re: Pantheon from Thirdway Industries - Coming Wed, Oct 12 t
Just want to add my voice to the choir, I really like the first back with the foil star accenting the purple card back more than the full foil back. I understand registration is critically important, and couldn't be more excited for this deck no matter how it turns out!!
It's Wool Socks isn't it! ...I knew it!!

They feel like walking on clouds in heaven and keep your feet warm when hell freezes over! And a great gift for your wife or daughter.

This is a totally fair point, The first all foil back I saw was Lotreks Venexiana Gold and it was really amazingJuFiN wrote:I think with the pictures the contrast on the old backs looks great! That said I don't think images do foil justice and the actual cards will look amazing full foil.
