one last thing - as u.s. backers pull out of the old, flawed early bird tiers that charge for u.s. shipping and move over to the new, corrected early bird tiers to get free shipping, we realize some foreign backers may not pull out and move over since their shipping won't change and they may be concerned they won't get over before the new tier sells out.

so, as a show of good faith, we will leave the old tiers up as well and look at them as our unofficial "international early bird tiers" for any foreign backers to take advantage and get a small discount on their decks. enjoy, and sorry again for any confusion!

a note on our decision to leave the old pledge tiers up - we actually decided to mark them as sold out because the tier mentions free shipping in the united states and kickstarter does not allow us to change the wording on a pledge tier once it's selected, and we don't want to continue to mislead domestic backers into thinking that they can get free shipping on those tiers when it isn't possible. so, any foreign backers that are in that pledge tier are welcome to stay, but any u.s. backers that stay in that tier will be charge for shipping. if they choose to stay in that tier and not move over for fear of not getting into the new tier before it sells out, we will issue them a refund on kickstarter at the end of the campaign for the extra shipping they were charged.

so, as of now, none of those old, flawed shipping tiers can be chosen, but we are allowing international backers to stay in them if they wish and any u.s. backers already in them may stay and notify us at the end of the campaign for their shipping refund.

Cool! If anyone was charged, just select "Manage Pledge" then "Change pledge" and pick the new pledge tier at the same price. When you check out with these updated tiers, the shipping will be $0

I'm stuck in the $9 shipping EB since I pledged quick and had to get offline. Very glad to see I'll get a refund. Thanks!

I just hope the shipping snafu (although seemingly well taken care of after-the-fact) didn't deter any buyers, thus hindering this project getting funded. However at 85% right now it's looking good so next I'll hope it doesn't hurt the chances of the green deck getting funded. And I will be THOROUGHLY disappointed if it doesn't.

Already funded and then some, Paul. The few people who hit the EBs with shipping are mostly members here. We should have moved them out, if they are US backers, anyway - otherwise it doesn't make any difference, methinks.

Yes, it will need some more funding to release the green foiled deck, but we have a few tricks up our sleeves.

The Ultra Limited Blue Deck is numbered, etched, laser cut and comes in a carat case. Only 50 will be made, and they can be added for $50 (shipping is free). They are available now - just go to the Manage Your Pledge button and add the appropriate dollar amount to cover the number of decks you want.

Yea I fear if green doesnt fund the whole thing might fall apart I'm sure a lot of people would halve their pledge given that they assumed they would be getting one or two of each but don't want 2 or 4 of just the blue...

That's what happened with Delirium- the second color didn't fund BUT the ultra-rare version did (because it was an add-on). I wish it were vice versa then and I wish it were vice versa now because, while I appreciate limited decks, I'd rather have the more affordable one. Instead it never saw the light of day and I'll be pissed if it happens again with this campaign. Even more so because these decks are supposed to commemorate UC. And UC is black and green. So the green deck should be created. I understand that the add-ons are released to try and push the funding to reach the 2nd deck unlock goal but I fear that, as with Delirium, it will fall short. But I hope I'm proven wrong!

Also still waiting to see what UC member perk(s) there is(are)...

The thing is though, it's (probably much) cheaper overall to produce 50 ultra limiteds than 1000 "affordable ones". That's why those are put out first, and why it wouldn't work vice versa.

That said, I'm also REALLY hoping the green deck is unlocked.

It's Dave & Chris: decision, but the Blue ULE decks are sold out and I suspect that we will offer 50 green ULE decks soon.

Paul & JuFin - I suppose that I need to reset expectations or at least try to manage them. While of course the deck is cobranded by UC and we love to see the UC lime green version, the artists are and never have been under any requirement to make one. I suggest that they do, but we didn't have one in 2014 and everyone seems to be quite pleased with the results ("Grotesque").

In this case, the limited edition of decks is likely going to subsidize the standard edition, and assuming that Dave & Chris decide to produce the green limited edition both decks will be funded simply by selling those.

Making a green deck required would severely limit the ability to get good artists for the annual decks. I guess we need to talk about it more outside this thread, but for now, let's realize that the artists are doing UC a solid by helping defray the costs of hosting and other fees each year when they contribute to the Friends of UC fund, just like individuals who are members do. Last year two years' fees were paid immediately after that was received, so we are a little bit ahead for now.

Let's not politicize the annual decks, especially when they are funding. We'll work on it in the future, as I said. I think that if I simply state that the membership expects a green deck then we will be fine, right?

What if, for future decks, we did ask for a green deck as the base deck? I don't think it's too much to ask and, of course, recolors or other LE decks could be offered. I wouldn't say it's has to be UC lime green either. It's a nice representation but may not always fit the artists style. Personally, I would like to see UC decks(le version) offered to UC users only. Just food for thought.

True, but A) there were still two decks (original and limited) produced that year and B) the following year it was almost unanimously requested that more UC branding occur.

I agree 100% and I'm finally happy to see this deck come to fruition. The annual UC deck is like Theo Epstein- if a deck isn't funding or a baseball team is cursed, in comes UC or Theo to fund the deck or win a World Series!
Mike Ratledge wrote:Let's not politicize the annual decks, especially when they are funding.
That was never my intent. I guess I was just venting because two years ago I really wanted to see the Insomnia edition created but instead an ULE was released that I couldn't afford. But I know in that instance it was one of those "it is what it is" type of situations and same with this year- those ULE decks need to be released in order to increase the funding which, in turn, should lead to the LE decks being unlocked. I understand that and I think it's a great idea as well. In fact, it looks like it might happen this year- according to the latest Edgy Bros. update, they might plan on releasing it a little early so :ugdance: :ugdance:

I completely agree, but that being said from the artist perspective it's a nightmare just trying to keep the add ons straight (accounting wise) since KS doesn't handle those at all, really. Lotrek did exactly that, and I would love to see a members only version, but again - making it required would truly screw things up.

I hear ya- better to have 1 annual UC deck than none at all. Not to mention 1 UC deck designed by really good artists!

Why don't you ask the Edgy Bros. if you can switch...as it seems that there are still some of the Limited Greens left, they probably would...doesn't hurt to ask.

Dave tells me that everyone who was charged shipping during that first hour or so of funding should have been refunded now. If anyone is still waiting, please let us know.

As far as I know, we should have funds from Stripe (KS) in a day or two, and things will actually start to move toward the production of both decks. I'm sure they will post news as the digital and then hard proofs come in, etc, etc.

I would like to thank everyone who backed the project, helped us all by encouraging friends to pledge, and hope that everyone will be looking forward to the decks when they become available and later the UC2018 decks (by Rick Davidson) - when the time comes - about 8 or 9 months from now.

Yes. They arrived at the port yesterday, should be in Austin in a few days or week at most.

Here is the black version of the laser cut tuck by Clearcut Creations of England (the blue version is essentially the same, but on Blue stock):

and that's all laser cut, no print or typeset elements.

The UC2017 Fifth Annual Decks project by Edgy Brothers 'Avant-garde" standard edition are at the fulfillment center as of Wednesday! Here are some pix of my pair of each version, the UC green deck with Royal House courts and the blue version with' Edgy Brothers Standard' courts.

Check out the tucks: nothing but foiled goodness, no ink at all. I took a good picture (decent for me, anyway) along with two purposefully sideways views - flash and not - to show off the foil.

I'll be playing with the decks here for the next few days and report back, but the handling should be perfect.

Really? For what you got with these, I thought $12 was very reasonable. If you missed the Early Bird tiers, it was at most $14 each for a pair, or did I miss something?

We've always, especially the last couple of years been trying to innovate. That's hard to do without being a little on the high side price-wise.

Sorry Mike, I meant the $50 specials. If all that shine is the standard deck I got a steal with my EB!
