I don't know if this will apply to many, but I used to be annoyed by tuck swaps. Then I realized I didn't need to buy all versions of a deck I was backing, and once I didn't have that need I stopped being annoyed. Now I only get annoyed if there's a "you can only get deck x if you buy deck y" and I want deck x.

I would theorize that those who defend tuck swaps (like shaitani describes) basically have that same need, except they like the addition of more versions and can afford them.

+1, what shaitani said.

I'm all in favor of tuck swaps I don't have to pay for if it means my favorite projects get funded. I'm all in favor of color changes when I like them, and I'm in favor of color changes when I don't (however, in those cases, I simply don't pledge.)

I completely agree that some of the harping is likely diluting the legitimate constructive criticism that could genuinely make projects better, and that some project creators are likely to slip into lurker mode or simply slip away entirely when the ranting gets out of hand.

As for this specific project, while I'm not going in for the tuck swap, myself, I nonetheless think it looks awesome, and I'm glad it's helped get this project funded. I love Rick's work, and these decks are simply screaming to join my collection.

I definitely agree that the affordability is a huge part of it.

Since people like to have the "complete collection" like you described, they are more likely to get angry if they can't buy some item in that "complete" collection without burning money. And they're more likely to be accepting of added decks as long as they only have to fork over a few bucks to get them.

Hypothetically, to illustrate even for the richest collector, imagine you're collecting those glamour nuggets for example, and you have all 150 colored versions of it, then you find out that the artist created only 5 of an obscure color and gave it to his friends. Effectively the cost for you to complete your collection is infinity. Because unless you happen to know those friends and can throw money at them, you're never going to have a complete collection, and I can see how that would enrage people.
MagikFingerz wrote:Now I only get annoyed if there's a "you can only get deck x if you buy deck y" and I want deck x.
For sure, that can be very annoying, and it's already the norm. Every kickstarter project now requires you to pick up the "everything package" to get the nicest/rarest one. The only way to get just the "nice"/"rare" one is to buy secondary-market, and that often ends up costing as much as if you just pledged for the "everything package" to begin with.

Kickstarter updates are editable for 30 minutes after they're sent out, after that they are locked down. It's so KS creators have a chance to correct any typos or mistakes made that weren't caught until after having sent the update.

Hi guys :) Sorry I'm on the drive to work (torrential rain) so haven't read the chat yet, looks like a good one! Just a note that both decks will be printed with the USPCC. Had to make a very hard decision mid campaign and hope it paid off, we've just scraped in. Thanks to everyone who kept the faith. I'll read up soon and feedback

In the end I'm happy that I kept my pledge!

I was kinda annoyed by the Black Label editon as I thought that it was to replace the mentioned MetalLuxe streatch goal, and in a rush to get the deck funded Rick decided offer a lesser deck, but I misunderstood that! So I kept my pledge and even pledge for the black label in order to help this one getting fundded, very happy I did that and I can't wait for it (already reserved a spot for it right next to the Origins Grail in my top 10).

Congrats Rick for managing the campaign so well.

Hey guys, have finally caught up. Understand the feelings during the campaign. Hopefully I've made amends, and thank you for the solid UC support.

I have to say straight up my only goal is to create decks you guys will love, profit or not. Running a campaign can be a tricky balance. Signed and limited decks are a popular request and it's difficult when I can't provide signed decks from NZ without major shipping costs. With the Black Label I felt I could at least provide backers who did want this something really unique. There is a lot of detail and time involved in creating it. But I absolutely understand collectors who see it as an unnecessary extra.

After working through a range of options I was confident we would be back on track with the original plans - and I would always put everything back into producing the best decks I could. A lot of quality competition on KS at the moment, so thank you for the support. I mean that :) I am really excited about seeing these decks produced.

Got my decks yesterday :) and i'm very happy what Rick has done.
The Shadow deck is amazing, the tuck is superb !! But some cards are a bit misaligned, a wellknown USPCC issue.
The Rouen 1567 is a deck of it's own league. I don't have any deck like this, those lovely courts and vintage pips makes this deck an unique thing in my collection.
Imo every collector & card lover shoud have both decks in their collection.

Thanks to Rick for these wonderful decks!
Can't wait to see what he is doing for the UC2018 Sixth Annual Decks. ;)

Origins Shadows of History!!

Received my decks a couple of days ago, and I have to say: This deck is something out of this world!
Rick managed to improve on an over the top already deck (Origins Frist Edition/Grail). Only someone with true passion and dedication to this art could manage something like this. Origins First Edition/Grail, ranks amoung my top 5 decks, and this one managed to surpass those decks! This deck can win DOY 2017 easily (even with amount of great decks produced this year)!

The Shadows of History is encased in a beautiful box, embossed, foiled and amazing all around (that back!!). The cards are some of the most beautiful you'll ever see. The colors are just perfect. And the back design is very impressive and beautifully complemented with metalic inks.

The Rouen 1567 is (as someone already mentioned) a deck of its own league. One needs to hold it to understand why. I just love it!!
Rouen 1567

And to tie everything up, Rick decided to produce something that I believe very few would be capable of, Origins Shadows of History Black Label. This deck features a big dose of passion, a tremendous amount of dedication, and you'll also find all the love Rick put in this project. A TRUE WORK OF ART..

Thank you very much Rick for producing such an amazing deck!

Wow, thank you for this guys. That has made my day, and the last few months worth. Love the pics, thank you awesome work. All the packs have shipped so they should be with you very shortly if not already.

It's been a pretty drawn out production cycle with all the amazing decks flying around, but I'm glad of the end result. Very thankful to every UC member who got behind this campaign - and the last. You got it across the line. Special mention Bruno, onya.

I'd be interested to know if the misaligned cards are only a USPCC issue. I had the same problem with the first campaign. That said, I haven't yet felt a stock that I prefer over Bicycle and Bee. Anyone care to throw out their favs happy to hear.

Thanks again guys. I'm buried in the UC deck now so hope to rock into that very shortly.

I got half a brick so these can be funded. I haven't got anything yet. I didn't received a shipping notice and don't know if other people got one so I'm just on the lookout everyday for these.

One of my fellow Seattle-area card collectors (you may have heard of him) said he received his decks a few days ago without having received any previous notice, so like you, I'm simply on the lookout every day. :)

Anticipation is, of course, part of the fun, no?

Unfortunately, the USPCC sometimes do have an alignment issue, but given the number of decks they produce, its relatively small. My brick of your original Origins decks all had perfect registration, and I expect my mixed brick of Origins Shadow of History will have perfect registration as well. Even EPCC/LPCC is starting to have registration issues. Granted, they're still better than the USPCC in this area, but as the Taiwanese/Chinese printers start pumping out more volume, they're also bound to have a few registration issues as well. As you say, the benefits of USPCC stock/finish greatly outweigh the occasional registration issues.

I've yet to receive my mixed brick, this is one of my most anticipated decks from this year and I'm guessing its going to have a strong run for the UC Deck of the Year for 2017. And I can't wait to see your rendition of the Annual UC deck as well.

The last decks shipped Wednesday I’ve been told. There was a few days delay between batch 1 and 2 due to missing stickers, so some will have received earlier. If you do want tracking numbers let me know and I’ll see what I can do - rick@Originscards.com. But yes, they are on their way! I’m really happy with Gamblers work but I’ll see what I can do about shipping notification in the future

HeyHo on the say-so, if you do have to go the sub-par uspcc rooted route, I'm preferencing Bee Stock for your UC deck, >>>Bee Stock<<< and I ain't talking lower case crushed bees either, give us collector stock, >Collector Stock< more in th'Casino-Robusto range, not that cardistry economic crudity !
None of that >economy driven< guff disguised as innovatation/p*ss in your pocket/b*s*

Got my decks today, GW was the shipper though they usually send a tracking number. I'll have to enjoy these decks before Rock comes out with the annual UC, 2018 decks.

The back of the tuck of the dark blue or black tuck is the best I've seen recently! Maybe ever, for now. The whole tuck is blinged out than the red tuck. The Rouen deck is cool, keeping it looking traditional and neat looking without too much of the modern elements.

Got my mixed half brick the other day along with my Black Label #7... dude... absolutely freaking amazing. Its not too often that a sequel is better than the original but this one definitely is. It's like Empire compared to New Hope. My only complaint would be the seal on the Black Label deck makes it so I can't open it. ;)

Rick, you've outdone yourself for sure. I can't wait to see what you do next.

Chach mate, these are the easiest openers ever .... and the neatest of techniques .... ease the bottom of that label up, the ribbon does the rest.
And then the interior wrap, so cool ....

Thanks Bike, Chach, that really makes the stressing over the details worth it. It sounds like everyone is getting their decks now, shipping in the US is just as slow as NZ!
And thanks my west island friend, hope your batch has arrived. Yes the Black Label has a special non-tear seal if you do want to open it (details).

On the side, did you hear the news we can no longer use the terms Bicycle and Bee on our custom USPCC decks? Pretty disappointed on that one.

What?!!! :o You mean no more Bicycle or Bee branded custom decks? If that is true, it will shake up the card collecting world, not that Newell cares. A sad day indeed. Jay, fill us in on what's going on.

Yes received an email a few days ago, thought it would have been big news -

"All contracts going forward will have the paper grade name listed as Classic or Premium vs the more brand designative Bicycle and Bee."

Attached is a list of rules and details but basically that's the summary. No Bicycle or Bee labelled custom decks. Same stock tho to be clear.
