Not sure why people are pledging for such a pricey deck.

Or different strokes for different folks. Just cause it doesn't appeal to you, jerichoholic, doesn't mean the same for everyone else.Bruno wrote:jerichoholic wrote:Not sure why people are pledging for such a pricey deck.

The Phantom of the Opera Deck now on Etsy
Hi guys, it's been awhile.
After a successful campaign and happy backers - The Phantom Deck is finally available on Etsy Shop.
The Phantom of the Opera Playing Cards are limited batch of 666 decks, now left with around 150:
Cards have gold edges, black core and special texture to feel nicely under your fingers
All cards come with beveled-tuck box, "gold" sealing sticker and stamped certificate with unique deck number on it:
We introduced this deck with additional black box with golden logo, so now you can choose between "regular" deck or deck with this box:
Here are some comments from kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iluzijastudio/the-phantom-of-the-opera-playing-cards-deck/comments
And to promote them on Etsy shop, we have created coupon code POTO20 (for 20% off) valid till the end of May and put special price for double deck in options:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/259382536/the-phantom-of-the-opera-playing-cards
Although this is our first deck - I'm really happy with final product and thankful for support so far. We're having few ideas for future decks, but all in good time. Idea is to create special decks and to be proud of them.

I didn't back it so I'm not sure if they ever named the printer (other than saying it's not USPCC).

Re: The Phantom of the Opera Deck now on Etsy
Hi folks,
I know that this isn't what a card collector prefers, but it is not American or known to you printing companies (such as USPCC, MPC) as we are not in US nor EU. Costs for creating decks with these companies, including import, customs, tax etc... were far too great for batch of 700 decks. Plus, this deck was important to us and we wished for features such as golden edged cards, "air cushion" texture, additional boxes etc. We did sent inquires to many playing cards printing companies and non were able to give us proper offers. So, deck was printed in Serbia by checked local companies (yes, plural) as I knew quality and possibilities of these (worked with them before on different projects). I found a different way how to make deck that I've imagined

Re: The Phantom of the Opera Deck now on Etsy
While it seems that collectors only care for decks printed by the big companies, there are many out there, like myself, who could care less about where a deck is printed and collect because they enjoy the art. You believed in the deck and wanted to share it with others and did what you had to do to get it printed. I hope these do well for you.

I am lucky enough to own one of these decks from the Kickstarter and would have no hesitation recommending them to anyone considering a purchase. I also had a great experience delivery, packaging and communication wise with the creators.

Re: The Phantom of the Opera Deck now on Etsy
Still bugs me that when I originally backed this, there was some problems with my card and my pledge didn't make it in the end. Luckily I'll get one from Sherman as this deck is really great looking! I also want to own decks from as many different printers as possible so using an "unknown" printer is great in my books, though I don't think that all here agree on that
I can't wait to have this, most likely somewhere in August.

Re: The Phantom of the Opera Deck now on Etsy
NgNash - Tell us which printer printed these. At least they can get out on the radar. Of course, ppl will look them up and pretty much bash them. Who knows maybe ppl might like them. MPC was known for just getting a demo deck done. Now ppl know they are pretty good in quality and are economical in batches of 500 or less...

Re: The Phantom of the Opera Deck now on Etsy
Finally got this. Great design but everyone already knew that.
If I remember correctly these were printed in Serbia (?). Unknown Serbian printer and a gilded deck, I thought that these were going to be crap in quality. They really are not. They don't fan perfectly straight out of the box, but if anyone has a gilded deck that does that, please show me that and the tomb of Gengis Khan too while you are at it. The stock on this deck is quite nice! And the clumps in my one handed fans are only minor ones, less than 1 cm.
If you are doing another deck (And please do! The Hunchback of Notre Dam please?) I don't think that using the same printer is a mistake.

Re: The Phantom of the Opera Deck now on Etsy
Crap, Now I have to remember that there might be a good printer in Serbia. I still have to remember there is a good printer in Taiwan. Nobody has pictures or videos of how the cards are made. Currently, LPCC and EPCC get their decks made from them. MPC was known for a good demo deck. Now, they are on the radar...

Why is that? I'll presume that you have an account on etsy, right?4.of.Clubs wrote: Been wanting to get this deck for a long time but the shipping always stops me at check-out.
The only reason that you are unable to proceed is if you haven't checked everything on check-out. For example Quantity is set by the default on one, but there is a "Box Option" below where you must select an option > one regular deck; or maybe an option double deck (different price of course). This has to be selected manually, if it's not - etsy wont let you to proceed.
Let me know did you had more trouble.

Re: The Phantom of the Opera Live on KS
Makes no sense, ~$8 USD to ship one deck to the US seems more than reasonable! Even if he selects 2 decks he will pay the same, which will bring the shipping per deck to just ~$4 USD... So I also don't understand why shipping stops him...MagikFingerz wrote:I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I think he means the shipping cost "stops" him from consciously placing the order.NgNash wrote:Why is that? Even if he selects 2 decks he will pay the same, which will bring the shipping per deck to just ~$4 USD... So I also don't understand why shipping stops him...MagikFingerz wrote:I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I think he means the shipping cost "stops" him from consciously placing the order.NgNash wrote:Why is that? The only reason that you are unable to proceed is if you haven't checked everything on check-out. For example Quantity is set by the default on one, but there is a "Box Option" below where you must select an option > one regular deck; or maybe an option double deck (different price of course). This has to be selected manually, if it's not - etsy wont let you to proceed.
Let me know did you had more trouble.
I guess we are spoiled but $8 shipping on a $12 deck during the money spending holiday season is just a bit much (and I only need one deck).

Re: The Phantom of the Opera Live on KS
Well, sorry bud I've already placed more then 50%off.... if you are bit closer, shipping wouldn't be a problem. Oversea's costs are frequently (not always) even more then 8$. And it's same price for everything under 0,5kg (thus same price for shipping of double deck). You can try to find someone who is near you and also want one deck, and split the shipping cost4.of.Clubs wrote:
