Hehe, thought the same.
This Video doesn't prove anything. This guy is "just" doing packet cuts (yeah they are quite nice), but if someone talks about the quality of a deck you shoud also show some fans, spreads and faro shuffle.

But hey ..... #practicemore !!

What do you consider "a good offer" to be? Two just recently sold on eBay for about $300. They're still holding there value.

PM me if your interested, I have a couple.

(which we know is very high for the quantity actually printed - if you include uncuts made by the hundreds. USPCC had a big minimum "back then")

I just found myself dropping my pledge.

I had originally pledged without really thinking about it - I'd been a part of JR's projects from the very first - so it was a no brainer (right?)

Issues of quality control / transparency notwithstanding, the engraving is highly skilled and he gallery edition examples work extremely well - but well out of my price range.

Looking back at the examples of how the printed deck would look (just the one queen...) , I realised something really quite important.

I don't actually like them.

Or to be fair - the design - perhaps because of the engraving design process - seems to be lower detail and flatter in tone. When printed I kinda feel it looks a bit cheap. (And this may be compounded if concerns over the printer bear out).

The work and process behind the gallery editions is awesome - and make them extremely desirable to me - but i'm still waiting on that lottery win...

Not wanting to derail the thread much more than I have already (ok, not really sorry). I just sold one of my 2 Black Unbrandeds for a bit less than the recent eBay auctions (friend discount) but still a fair amount. They have gone down quite a bit over the years as I remember some going for close to 500 a while back, but 250 or so is nothing to sneeze at for a deck of cards that cost me nowhere near that amount to buy.

I've one left, so not in the market to purchase. I'll probably hold off on selling my last one for a while longer.

He seems to have abandoned all of his once well founded advice. I believe this project will be either be his pièce de résistance or his final playing card project.

I think it will be cancelled. I am not the only one.

Jackson has done it before and this project has the same characteristics - it's been going backwards for several days

At this point - with 9 days to go - the sales of the 'Gallery' editions are pretty average to be honest (although we don't have much to compare it with).
  • White/Red decks: 26 (24 of these in the two EB tiers)
  • White/Gold: 0
  • Navy/Gold: 4
  • Red/Gold: 1
  • Black/Gold decks: 0
Will be interesting to watch (from the sidelines) whether this increases or decreases as people realise the end of the campaign is approaching.

As it stands, reward tiers including the Gallery edition (of any type and colour) account for 30.51% of the running total, or 34.71% when postage allowance is excluded.

While on postage, there is an astounding difference in postage vs total money spent between this and his earliest playing card projects. On this project, it represents a meagre 12.11%. Compare this to Federal 52 (Part 1) which was 39.70% and Federal 52 (Part 2) which was a whopping 47.32%!

The Federal 52 (Part 1) actually had a higher postage attribution than 39.70%, as domestic shipping was apparently included in the basic pledge tier levels (only international backers had to 'add on').

IS that surprising though when single decks are being sold for thousands? That's bound to push the relative % attributed to shipping.

A pound of feathers costs the same to ship as a pound of gold (ignoring volume and insurance!)

I think the question is whether people were happy to pay $1 for shipping for every $1 they paid of pledge? This was basically international backers EXCLUSIVELY contributing HALF of the total money collected for the ENTIRE project for the SOLE benefit of international postage costs. That is completely outrageous! I've long known that international backers are leveraged to facilitate low/no domestic shipping charges but had never previously believed it was THAT bad.

No one had any idea of knowing at the time of Federal 52 what specific decks would end of being worth. There was as much chance of then only just holding value at best, like 95% of other projects.

Happily, for those wishing to partake in Intaglio, the balance has shifted significantly back toward money going into pledge and not postage. I'm sure that's built into the pledge price but it's a bit more consoling not having the fact quite so overt. Perhaps that means less tolerance built into price margins that can tolerate false starts, delays, production problems, price movements in shipping etc.

My hypothesis here is that if I can do worldwide shipping included in all pledges with certain knowledge that there will not be much backers coming my way because of GPCC being a new entity, printer details not divulged etc. then I believe that the likes of Jackson etc. who attract horde of backers would always have better tolerance built into the margins that can withstand any fluctuations described above. That said, one thing that worries and keeps me on my toes is fluctuation in Aussie dollar because all vendor or partners ask for & accept payments in USD only.

Last week I got this deck in the mail. Under playing with the deck for some time, I'm afraid that I'm rather disappointed. I got just the basic standard deck and it just really feels and look cheap like.

These decks were knowingly printed in China. You should have known that this could be a problem when you backed the project.

I also received this deck, it's OK. That's about all I can say about it, I'll be keeping it but not treasuring it. Ideally I don't feel like I should be supporting any of his decks as his religious fanaticism rubs me the wrong way, but I judge projects on an individual basis and I'm sure he hasn't produced his last great deck just yet, there's still atleast one or two more up his sleeve (I hope!).

As someone who has never been religious, not baptized, never been in a sermon, have never read the bible, never prayed to any god and as someone who is annoyed by and does think less of people who are religious (although I try my best not to) and simply finds all religions untrue and as a not needed part of humanity that always seem to cause more harm than good I can say that saying Jackson is a religious fanatic is not a fair statement by any means.

Nah, I think I rather get my Christian religious material by watching Lucifer, keep getting frustrated because of all the wasted potential, waiting for that miracle day when the show gets good. Naturally I slogged through 3 season of it, most of it being crap with a few rare snippets of an actually good show in there and when it looked like it finally could have been great, Fox goes and cancels it.

At least Westworld is great.

I have read the Bible in more English versions than can count from the Wycliffe (1350 ish) to current. I have read parts in Hebrew and Greek as well (yes, I have studied those languages). I do recommend it, even if you are not religious, but your choice. I think passages like 1 Corinthians 13 can resonate with most humans. If you want a really different translation, find a book from the Cotton Patch translation to read.

Just some background in me as well. I prefer not to get into religion or atheism. Just keep it on playing cards! Yep!

Lucifer is ok, but a better alternative would be Constantine (if it hadn't been cancelled). Movie's good too, though how could I say differently with this avatar?

That's an awful show. Try Seasons 1-7 of Supernatural. Do not watch passed 7.

Speaking of great Keanu movies, the John Wick movies are great, I especially like Chapter 2.

In those movies, he knows Gun Fu.

I agree about Lucifer, it's entertaining enough, but the pieces of over-arching story are too few and too far between, making it too slow overall, if it was more serialised it may not have been cancelled. As for Supernatural, I would say don't watch past season 5, it was originally planned in advance for only 5 and that's why those seasons are perfect with a perfect ending. John Wick is amazing of course, Equilibrium was a great movie with gun kata, but The Raid and The Raid 2 are just incredible. As for reading the bible, it took me two years to read the 16 Wheel of Time books, and I'm on my second year working through a 15 book reading list for The Dark Tower, yet I bet the bible feels longer, how anyone has the time to read it multiple times whether a priest or not is beyond me lol that is some dense reading.

I read a "children's version" (with pictures) when I was 10, once when I was in high school, and lastly when I was around 20. Idk if I'll ever read it again, just because of the length, and the language.
