Reylek wrote:Hey guys. We've always made it clear that any questions/concerns should always be emailed directly to us. Any of you who have emailed in the past can hopefully attest to the fact that we will respond very quickly.

These pricing differences are probably due to the fact that a normal brick is viewed in the system as 12 separate items, where the Collector's box is one item. The weights are a little different as we usually send normal bricks broken up so they fit into an envelope. The Collector Bricks will be sent assembled in boxes. The shipping calculator is largely automated, so sometimes it can be a little inconsistent.

Again, you will always get the best info and quickest responses if you email us directly - info@houseofplayingcards.com Forums and Facebook are great for certain things, but direct contact is always best for order questions.
Sorry for the long post in advance...

So I did contact HOPC, and they were extremely fast in responding, so I appreciate that.

But most of the answers I got were fairly vague and not too helpful. They did say they would be more than happy to reimburse any extra shipping they charge, but fell way short of honoring the S&H of a different brick. Or even telling me what actual S&H would be. So screen capturing what 12 Curators ship for is probably pointless.

Keep in mind, standard S&H for the collector's brick is $37.45, USPS (for me) was $21.20.

When I questioned why on my last order (2 bricks) I was charged $15.35, I was told "the system actually under-charged you on the last order if it was sent boxed." But the large flat rate it was sent to me in DOES cost $15.35. So what was I not charged for? 2 sq-ft of bubble wrap?

They said "The final shipping cost should be somewhere between $15-20 but I will not have the exact figure until the warehouse actually ships a package." "If the lowest option you are being offered by the shipping calculator is over $21, odds are it is pretty close to the actual S&H costs, though is might be a couple of dollars too high."

Bottom line? I'm passing. I need to know what I'm paying for something. And I just thought I should let everyone know that while they will refund any excess, just because 12 decks ships standard for $9.60, that is probably NOT what you will be charged for this.

The funny thing is,they could have send the brickbox unassembled and in this way no need for a cardboard box around the decks/brickbox.
Would have saved a lot of problems and money for the national and international customer.
Even D&D are that smart! That´s how they send out their Variety Box.

I see they are sold out now. Not a quick sellout, but it didn't drag out either.

luckily for me I am no longer a kid and have plenty of disposable income. I spent more than that last week on ammo for my colt 1911.

even with shipping included, it comes out to ~$6 a deck. the point is, this is one of my many hobbies and i'll spend as much money as i want. you seem jealous that you cannot do the same.

as for the shipping issue, amazon has spoiled me with their free 2 day shipping, and 3.99 next day.

I do not think anything derogatory was meant. Some times this goes on here in good humour. A lot of us are impossible to insult. I am only insultable in matters of Religion and everything else, besides that I am good to go :) By the way, nice on your Colt 1911, nice firearm. You have to admit, that was a funny meme.

Well, someone has received their collector box.

She posted a video showing what she got, and then said she was disappointed. I would have been too.

Heraldry Blue
Heraldry Red
Bicycle Americana
Mechanic
Vaudeville
Blue Crown
Red Crown
Green Crown
The "non-sanctioned-olympic-decks" bronze-silver-gold
Curator deck

I would have been HUGELY disappointed as well.

Not saying this is an amazing deal, but why are you going 'not even a gold crown' when by the numbers they've released, only 10% of the bricks have one? If you go into a package like that with an expectation you'll get the limited stuff, you will, literally in this case, 9/10 times be disappointed.

Are the crowns V1 or V2? If V1, that is a much better brick. Also, if she paid $30 shipping and she's in the U.S., she needs to get that corrected.

I could've swear I noticed embossing on the crown decks, so they'd be v2's...

I'm certainly glad I passed on that offer and went with the Dan & Dave Variety Box instead... much better assortment for the price... plus I didn't have most of the decks in that box to begin with, where as I'm already sitting on triplicate and higher on many of the Blue Crown stuff...

This is my video. I'm not saying I'm entirely disappointed, I mean I knew the chances of me getting anything rare were slim, but I think this was "did I really pay $82 for all of this stuff I already own?" talking in the video. Maybe I was disappointed in myself for being an impulsive card collector. I guess now I have duplicates at least.

My collection only has Bicycle decks so far, and I am looking into collecting other stuff made by USPCC, so I would be satisfied with that brick since the only deck I already have is the Americana one.

They posted some bricks over on The Discourse:

#1
London Olympic set (Gold, Silver & Bronze)
Sanguine & Azure
Mechanic
Vaudeville
Curator
Red, Blue & Green Crown set
Cartes á jouer (Silver Bicycle)

#2
Gold London
Silver London
Bronze London
Mechanic
Purple Noc
Vaudeville
Azure Heraldry
Currator
Sanguine Heraldry
Blue Crown v2
Green Crown v2
Red Crown v2

#3
Blue Crown v2
Green Crown v2
Red Crown v2
Mechanic
Silver London
Currator
Yellow NOC
Blue NOC
Silver Bike
Azure Heraldry
Vaudeville
Sanguine Heraldry

#4
1x Azure
1x Sanguine
1x London Gold
1x London Silver
1x London Bronze
1x Americana
1x Curator
1x Green Crown v2
1x Mechanic
1x Black Crown
2X Blue Crown v2

Don't think any of those are people who have also posted here, but might be one duplicate. Looks like overall only one Black Crown.

These are all still a decent value (assuming you live in the US and got the shipping fixed) but considering there should be slightly over 50% "rare" decks, the two forums are running below expectation.

Yea i was thinking the exact same thing, that the rare decks were slightly on the low side, but that means its good news for Chess ! Higher chance of getting sth rare :D :D

Re: NEW- HOPC Collectors Brick

well if you had purchased the single decks during the sales then each deck has the following value (if i remember the prices correctly, feel free to correct me):

Americana Deck : $4 (July 4th 2012 Sale)
any NOC Deck : $2.5 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday)
any Crown V2 Deck : $3 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday)
Mechanic Deck : $3.5 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday)
any Olympic Deck : $6 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday)
Vaudeville Deck : $3.5 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday)
any Heraldry Deck : $6.95 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday)
Curator Deck : $6.95 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday)

For international customers it wasn´t a great deal in my opinion(the shipping price kills it).
For the US customers it was a okay deal..if you had not bought anything during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sale.
So nothing really special if you got one of those previous posted bricks.
Most of the 12/12/12 bricks do contain the value you paid for ($59) so nobody can really claim that those boxes were a rip off.

To sum it up : If you didnt bought anything on the black friday/cyber monday sales at HOPC you´ve got yourself a deal (as a US customer) with the chance of hitting a brick box which contains a rare deck.

In this way the Blue Crown cleared it overstocking. a gross of each Crown V2 deck,Mechanic,Curator,Heraldry and London Decks.
I don´t blame them for that ;)

I don't feel its a rip off since it states it's a HOPC brick, so you'll most likely receive those HOPC decks. I do however feel they should include more higher priced decks, like the VERVEs.

I got the same exact thing as this. Both boxes. I was also reimbursed partially on the shipping charges. Shipping came out to $15 instead of 30.

Overall I am pleased. I only had one Americana deck in my collection which was already opened. The rest are new to me so I will open one deck and leave the second sealed.
