Well, historically speaking, walnut and beech are the most common weapons grade woods since they were used for stocks for centuries. Probably should've gone with them instead.

Now if he made them out of Ebony and dropped the whole tactical bit, they'd be worth about the same. Carbon fibre would be a good substitute as well and is very easy to mold and machine.

Wow. I've seen the latest update of the tactical cases... Cory should've sent better pics because they didn't look that exciting if I were one of the 10 receiving one.

Just got and update on the Tactical's I'm pretty stoked about them personally. I know they are gonna be worth the wait! I think this design is more practical and gives a cleaner fresh look to these decks. Can't wait to see mine!

Here is the update:

GREAT NEWS! Cory, the machinist who designed and machined the final Tactical Legacy Case has finished machining all 10 Tactical Legacy Cases! They turned out incredible. I have some final finishing work to do on my end, (giving them a brushed finished and laser engraving the edition number and Tally Ho logos) but I just wanted to give you guys an update.

Thank you to all of you who stuck with me on these Legacy cases. You WILL NOT be disappointed. I will let you know as soon as they have been finished and ready to ship out. Here are some of the pics Cory sent me just after he finished assembling them. The cases have hidden barrel hinges and also a magnet closure. The case will also have the Trademarked Tally Ho logo, edition number and my signature engraved onto it.

Note: Your Tactical Legacy will not come with the pictured Black Unbranded Reserve Note. :)

Here are Cory's website and instagram urls if you want to check out his incredible work.

Color me unimpressed. There's not much machining time on that, definitely not enough to justify the cost or the delay. 10 Legacy decks, so they machined 20 halves. Knowing Jackson, he probably had them run at least 30 or more. Probably sourced aluminum billet and cut it on bandsaw to length then used a mill to do facing cuts and hog out the interior. Each half is identical so just run the same program on each one. Probably take longer to swap out cutters than to do the actual machining.

But if the people that bought it are cool with it, more power to them.

Honestly I don't think anyone would have anything nice to say no matter what was posted... all your assumptions are a testament to that... the work that this machinist does is pretty incredible and these cases will be too!

Looks amazing, much better than the original mocks.

Of course it's extravagant and expensive, probably not worth the cost of parts and labour. What is? But it is a representation of the original vision. The fact that's it's machined on a CNC is irrelevant. How could the expectation be any different - that's how billet aluminum parts are made. And there is still some finishing work to come. I prefer not to try to account for the time that the artists we support put into their products.

Based on billet prices and the hinges there, I would think it's probably $30 for parts per (less since they bought bulk and even more less if they were able to source via wholesale instead of the retail prices I checked) and at most 1 hour of shop time on the piece that's pictured. Mind you that's shop time, which includes everything from mounting the plates to changing collets to running the mill. And he wouldn't just be working on one piece at a time but rather a multi-piece setup. Average shop time is about $100 an hour, so while I think they look cool, I don't think these were really expensive to make. Definitely not the $400 price tag from kickstarter, and I feel the design was a "why don't we just do this?" compromise.

But then again, they're worth what someone will pay of course. Though IMO I'd say more man-hours went into the design and building of the wood Legacy decks than these.

Now I think of it, why not give those people a free Unbranded Federal 52 Reserve deck? I don't feel like going to KS to see what the pledge was but I guess it's over $300.

I have to agree. It's nothing from the original concept being a slip case. I was hoping it would match the other legacy boxes but from what's been created now, it just looks like a slab of metal. At best an open metal display case in-which you won't be able to display the top "tally ho" engraving unless closed. Useless!

Glad I sought my refund. Would've been upset receiving that piece of junk. For the money and delay that us backers went through, just goes to show how JR is quickly starting to go down hill.

Well that is milled but not finished, it won't look like that when it's done. I actually had to go back to the project page to be reminded that it was advertised as Aluminium, in my mind it was originally supposed to be a premium metal, so I guess my above criticism, while I think it still holds, is less significant because people are still getting the materials they were expecting, if not the design

It won't look much different than that though. He's not going to tumble, burnish or even polish them to a high gloss. From the update all that he's got left is some laser engraving, which will probably be the Tally Ho name, serial number and probably the KWP gas mask king I'm guessing.

As with most of JR's stuff of late, "You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting. "

What gets me though, is why didn't he just get a shop to tig weld the original slipcase design? Hell in the time it's taken he could've added tig welding to his skills and done it himself.

He probably wont, but the production shop he is having them done by likely will, I don't know a lot of metal fabricators (and I know a few) that would pass that off as a completed product, that looks like a design rough he probably had made to check fit and as a proof of concept

My bad, re-reading the update, " I have some final finishing work to do on my end, (giving them a brushed finished and laser engraving the edition number and Tally Ho logos". So they'll have a matte brushed finish, which shouldn't take more than a few minutes each

I never seen a video of any of the Tally-Ho legacy decks but the renderings makes them look huge, similar to a BEATS headphones box when they really aren't that big.

The type font on the tactical cases look better than the one on Kickstarter. I've seen the update of them being send out plus a few being sold on Kings Wild site. I forgot about it during the weekend so how much were they?

Many of you mentioned that it is overpriced for what the case it made out of. So for those who received it, what's the extra goodies Jackson mailed along with the cases?

At least you got something instead of nothing. What can you do with 3 flat tuck cases? Throwing in a sign unbranded Federal 52 Reserved deck would've been the best thing for waiting.

Anyone know why JR's Black Diamond Tally Hos are of interest at the moment?

I've had some listed on Ebay ever since I received them with barely any interest. Now all of a sudden within the last 2 days I have 6 watchers on them.

Just find this very peculiar.

Most people don't give decks time to grow value. When they first get them, everybody wants to sell them at the same time. Some fools mess it up for the whole market by pricing them lower than they should. So over time when people sell their decks, it becomes rare then you can boost the rate.
