Bicycle Grimoire Spade Ace: WTF?

Unread post by RSLancastr »

I just opened the Bicycle Grimoire deck I received yesterday from bmpokerworld (http://www.bmpokerworld.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), and was very surprised when I saw the Spade Ace (or Ace of Spades, if you prefer):

Not only was it not custom, it wasn't even the Liberty Spade Ace which Bikes (or at least Bike 808s) usually have!

It was simply this:

Image

What gives?

I have scanned in the Spade Aces from more than 100 modern Bike decks, and this is the first and only time I've seen a plain, vanilla one like this.

Perhaps the artist/designer ran out of time? Out of ideas?

The Spade Ace is where USPC always puts the codes which indicate the deck's pattern and year of publication.

Strange...

I'd agree that it is very strange. I don't have that deck myself, but that is quite lame. When you have a ready-to-go, standard AoS that could be used at any time, why would you go with such a plain one? There must be some good and logical reason, but I sure can't think of one.

By the way, I just double checked, and the card is not an obvious (to me, anyway) gaffe card.

The two gaffe cards that come with the deck sre:

1. A double-backer (the Grimoire back on both sides).
2. A modified double-backer (the Grimoire back on one side, a red Mandolin back on the other).

Well, it has been a couple of days now, and the Grimoire Spade Ace is showing no sign of maturing into a less-lame Spade Ace. :(

Okay, here is an image of the Aces of Spades I have scanned from about 125 Bike decks I have purchased over the past year or so:

Can You Spot The LAME Ace of Spades from the Grimoire deck?

Yes, it's in the third row, right under the red-faced one in the second row.

Why, Oh Why, USPC?

If you're going to talk "non-custom". What about the 2 dozen or so liberty spade aces?

I know its traditional, but the design is so tired. Can it really be considered a custom ace when its used on 90% of USPCC decks? I think I prefer the Grimoire "plain jane" A of S to all of those.
At least it's different.

I know what you mean Sharpie, but when you consider that my Bikes are only a small sub-collection within tghe more than 2,200 decks in my entire collection, I have far fewer Liberty Spade Aces than I do plain ones like that in the Grimoire deck.
