This is his third time trying to get these out, the second time were the Bicycle Revenant/Vivant decks. I think the deck looked better with the blue and red pips than the normal white and red pips. I guess the best way to have your deck funded is to set the pledge goal very, very low.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather have a decent deck in my hand than a digital mock up with a Bicycle logo on it any day.

I see that as reasonable enough. I'm not in for the deck, but I don't see dropping the goal as a knock against a deck. (This is different than just trying over and over with basically the same deck and goal and just tinkering on the margins or even just re-upping without changing anything at all).Bikefanatic wrote:This is his third time trying to get these out ... If there isn't enough interest to support an $11K goal to have 2500 decks made by USPCC, but there is enough interest for the project to get $3K and have a smaller run done by someone else, then I see it as a market working as it should, with shades of grey besides black and white.
The world is richer for it, whether or not that other printer makes a better or worse product than USPCC and regardless of what you or I think of the deck's design.
If there are enough backers out there who consider it a good value, and a project creator who is willing to put in their time and energy in return for that interest, then go for it. Everyone by their own reckoning, gets out more value than what they have to put in.
How many USPCC decks which are generally considered "successful", "beautiful", etc. would never have been made had they kept their minimum order at 5000?

Casual: I guess you're right. I just wish we had some numbers from other printers to back that up. When the Alice deck that was rejected by USPCC without changing the artwork went to Cartamundi, the creator said Cartamundi actually charged a bit more than the USPCC. Which surprised me, because why would someone charge more for an inferior product? No offence to CM btw, that's just the way it is.

"The cards will be printed on 310gsm French Casino playing cards stock with a black liner and a linen finish for that professional play and feel."
Now, I'm no card expert but that sounds pretty good to me. Perhaps they won't make the best deck for magic and cardistry; but for a collector and card player like myself, I think they're well worth a shot.
That's one of the reasons why I don't back away from non USPCC decks. Because I currently lack any decks from these alternate companies that are spoken of. I'd love to have an informed opinion on them before putting my foot down.

that's a good way to look at it. Too often I find myself having contempt prior to investigation.Eoghann wrote:"The cards will be printed on 310gsm French Casino playing cards stock with a black liner and a linen finish for that professional play and feel."
