great moves! i think that will help some, like me make the jump for a deck.Pedale Design wrote:Hey guys,
Thanks for all of the encouragement (Russel, you made me blush) and I am more blown away about the projects success than all of you. Trust me.
I have already put 240 hrs into this project ... and intend to work it full time for another month. I priced the decks according to art prices I am use to seeing in the design community, which I am learning is very different than the card collectors industry. I was definitely not trying to make a statement that my cards were superior. I am humbled by the response.
I am making a big KickStarter update on Tuesday. Which will include an upgrade on printing. I am changing all the cards to "Bee paper" and am embossing the the tuck case. I am also making an upgrade to the tuck case paper. With no extra charge to my backers. I want to communicate quality in design and production to everyone. I will also be adding some new rewards.
Thanks for all of the feed back. It has been helpful to me.

I'm glad to see you jumped back on the forums! Excellent news on the card stock and tuck material.
I'm looking forward to the update on Tuesday.

Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Live on Kickstarter
very happy to hear this update. I was wondering if I could add one more deck? I took the two deck/shirt combo tier but with this update i'd like one more deck. I re-read the page but didn't see the option for adding decks. I don't need 5, but i'd like one more to give as a gift.

Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Live on Kickstarter
Just saw from the new backing levels that it looks like 10,000 of this deck will be made, although now on Bee stock and with an embossed tuck.
Much as I try, I just can't justify this deck to myself, although it's always possible that I break down and order. International shipping is less now but still pretty high and combined with a high relative deck cost and a design that I find interesting but not "wow"... just doesn't do it.
Great to see the success of an unusual deck though.

Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Live on Kickstarter
Tyler asked for advice today on shipping. I had previously said I would help him out if he had any questions. After giving him the shipping supplies we use, I sent him another email and recommended that he use a fulfillment service, such as Amazon.
He has over 3,000 pledges and the enormity of having to send out 3,000 orders upon receipt of the decks, is going to be overwhelming. I really think using a fulfillment service is the best route.
Thanks!

and for the price he is charging the added cost of a fulfillment company will not eat that deep into his profits. In fact the shear amount of decks that he has sold has surly pushed him up into a price break that his savings from purchasing so many cards will offset the added cost of a fulfillment company.

Not to mention that the pledgers deserve smooth and swift shipping for the price they're paying.

Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Live on Kickstarter
That was very wise counsel. I've done 1000+ on my own and while doable it is a lot of work, and since he made such a deal about having them delivered by a precise date, he almost has to outsource that.BMPokerworld wrote:Tyler asked for advice today on shipping. decks on Kickstarter. Stay tuned for my Walrus of the World deck.

The more I looked at it the more the deck grew on me. Finally pledged for a few, especially once he fixed the court cards.
Problem? I don't have a problem.

Can you hear that???? It's the sound of everyone and their brother grabbing stock photos and piecing together shitty decks to put on Kickstarter. Ugh, here comes the second wave of shit.

Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Live on Kickstarter
Yes, currently no doubt. But the deserved success of this deck is going to have people throwing decks at Kickstarter like crackheads throwing dope when the police roll up. I guess it all works out in the end as cream rises to the top but the plethora of playing cards on Kickstarter superflous.Russell wrote:After? ...currently...

I'm not sure I agree, there have been plenty of ugly/bad decks that have succeeded.

Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Live on Kickstarter
I do think this deck is an anomaly. If you look at the average per backer (ref my other post in this forum) Pedale falls squarely in the middle of the pick. Clearly the deck appeals to a broader audience, probably those who care for the art (which really wasn't me) and see it as an art piece and not just a deck.
Personally I have concerns about him getting the project done well and it's a shame that the project will have such a high visibility as it's not going to be representative of what the market could or should bear. He's also going to have to go well over 10K decks to fulfill his KS.

Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Live on Kickstarter
I have confidence in him as his updates show him taking steps to ensure everything runs smoothly (including planning the shipments with the USPS guys). That and his willingness to change the design of the face cards based upon customer feedback shows he's very interested in customer satisfaction... a nice change from the crap I'm seeing today with the Altruism decks printing nightmare and the Sultan decks double seals... *sigh*
But of course, things can and will go wrong...

Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Live on Kickstarter
I do wish him success in finishing the process. I also wish him the wisdom to enlist all the help he can get.
All decks shipped by Dec 18th is a tall order. Doable with enough help, certainly, but a lot of work. I sent out about 1,200 packages all by myself and that was not the easiest thing in the world. It takes planning and dedication for sure. Having to do nearly 4X that amount? YIKES.
I like the deck, and Tyler was able to hit on a design that obviously resonated with lots of people. Making the deck one of the most expensive available also helped his bottom line immensely. Kickstarter has changed a lot in just the 6 months since I did my first deck on there, and it's clearly become a known entity for the card market. What I'm more curious about is if it can live up to its name, and how many of these designers can get away from Kickstarter and be completely independent...

Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Kickstarter Completed
That's one of my eventual goals to do a deck of my own and eventually not have to do programming software anymore... I have a long ways to go to get there though and still quite a few things to learn about the process and all the things that can go wrong.
Re: A Deck of Cards by Pedale Design - Kickstarter Completed
I am glad that I backed this project as I just love the designs . ($35) free shipping for me and I got 2 decks a shirt ... Tyler has also been very responsive on kickstarters ! Waiting for more designs !
Don't Worry , Be Happy Cheers!
