The Drinking Deck now live on KS

Unread post by Casual Pixels »

Even the bartenders are getting in on the act now

This deck is unlike any deck of playing cards created before! It is a full compendium of cocktail recipes and cocktail histories! Beautifully hand drawn and illustrated and wrapped up in a fully functional deck of playing cards created by bartenders for everyone!

Between the 3 of us combined--we have decades of experience working in bars from San Diego to San Fransisco to New York and several places in between
Not really my thing, but in case you're into the straight "novelty" deck category...

"This deck is unlike any deck of playing cards created before"? Not likely. The Absolute deck comes to mind, I'm sure there are others as well.

This is almost like the Hendricks Gin deck i got, whimsical illustrations + cocktail recipes = not a bad combination, but definitely not the first in the world.

LOL $35 for 2 decks shipped international, and not even USPCC? No thanks, I can buy a decent single malt for just about that price.

If you mean the Absolut (no "e") Vodka deck, this deck doesn't seem very similar to that one at all. Perhaps there is another "absolute" deck that I am unaware of. ;)

I agree however, that this is certainly not the first deck to feature cocktail recipes and images of drinks/drinking.

I think what they consider original here is their fictional barfly character that they have chosen to build this deck around. Also the hand drawn illustrations in connection with the drinking theme. Most of the bartender decks i've seen seem to use photos or more commercial imagery with not much attention paid to custom pips and other embellishments.(I haven't seen the Hendrick's gin deck - I'll have to check it out). Regardless, I too am tired of people hyping decks as "unlike any deck created before". There are more decks out there than most people realize and it's pretty hard to come up with something never before seen.

As a former bartender, these types of decks do hold some interest for me, but I'd like to see more before I decide on this one. It seems way too unfinished at this point.

I did mean the Absolut deck, and the comparison was to having drink recipes on cards which seemed to be the selling point of uniqueness.

I really like the casual but skilled sketchiness of these cards, but, the figures are overworked by comparison. I think the portraits should have that same light "character" as the rest of the napkin sketch. As it is they do not sync with their surroundings, and the loosely drawn surroundings have the greater appeal.
