Companies intentionally forcing multiple orders?

Unread post by MagikFingerz »

Just to state the occurrence that got me to post this in the first place: I was going to place an order at Ellusionist for the Artifice Tundra, and at the same time pick up a few of the Rounders and Blue LTD that I had not yet purchased. The Blue LDT was not in stock when I went to do this, so I thought I'd wait until they were. Now they are, and whadda ya know, the Rounders are now out of stock.

So now when I think back, I'm pretty sure this has happened before, though I can't recall any details like when or which company. There is of course the possibility that every time this has happened it was just a coincidence. But I really wouldn't put it past some of these companies with somewhat inflated shipping prices, because they would make more money doing it. Has anyone else had experiences like this?

Not a bad theory!
I always wish that companies would release 2 or 3 decks at the same time to save up on shipping costs.
I mean if they do not make a cut on the shipping - they could care less but most retailers are only online stores. so it would make sense that they overcharge your for shipping and handling.

i stopped buying from ellusionist due the high shipping fees (they do overcharge you)
even before the USPS had raised their prices for international postage.
thats why i wait a bit and do a bigger order from bmpokerworld.
fast shipping, get everything i want,do not need to pay multiple times for shipping and his prices are fair and i had never to pay any customs taxes on my order from bmpokerworld ;)

Whilst I see your point, maybe it's just that the decks are printed in the order they arranged with USPCC? Rounders have been out of stock for some time.

That's very possible, but it could also just be part of the explanation. The company could mark one deck as sold out when they get a new batch of another in, even if they still have some. And the Rounders was in stock when I went to make an order the first time, which was less than 2 weeks ago.

But there is of course no way of proving that anyone is doing this, so it's all just speculation and conspiracy theories

You could give up the booze and move to Kentucky and take on a job at the USPCC factory, after a few years you could parley that into an internship at the card companies and then work your way out of the mailroom and onto the cleaning crew. After another couple of years you become head of the cleaning crew and divide up the offices so that you get to clean the stock room. Then you can start to track what is in the warehouse and what the website shows on hand for sale. :D

Hey Magik, Kentucky's not a great place to move to if you plan on giving up booze!! It's a great place to get a good Bourbon.

It's the home of Wild Turkey, Makers Mark, Jim Beam and many other small distilleries. They even named the area the Bourbon Trail (http://kybourbontrail.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)! It's like Napa Valley in CA but soooo much better.

My wife and I have wanted to partake in the trail since we moved to Indy, but haven't had any opportunities once our daughter was born - 5 years ago!

We were just in Cincinnati for the weekend earlier this month and I picked up a few nice Bourbons for the basement bar. Didn't get a chance to check out a distillery though.

Thanks, Randy

I'm afraid I'm too young to have started liking bourbon yet (I know, I'm ashamed  ), but a trip to KY would certainly be a good start. I'm actually thinking of doing my MSc in the States, so that's not an impossibility!

I have actually been in a fight that was fueled by bourbon and playing cards.

I think what companies really do is force you to buy more than 1 item. Shipping and handling is so much for a single deck, you sit there and think, "well, I should order two decks for that shipping fee."
