Bicycle geoDeck - LIVE on Kickstarter!
Bicycle geoDeck - LIVE on Kickstarter!
First post...
I found this forum after talking with Dave (Vanda decks). I have run one successful kickstarter campaign for logo design and have followed several projects for deck design over the last few months.

Final website. http://www.gologofolio.blogspot.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
First off I am trained and registered as an architect. I have always been interested in all types of design, from buildings to products to graphic design.
The deck in am currently working on is a minimalistic desk based on a set of geometric rules. It has similar design philosophies as the Vanda deck and also the Core deck (that I discovered today).
Part of the design involves redesign of all of the pips. The result is a new take on each of the suits, taking them down to their most primitive forms.
I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum and any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. I have read several other threads so far and have found that one item to reconsider is the back of the card and if it is two way.
Thanks in advance.

Re: New to deck design - but not to design
Welcome to the boards!
You have a great start so far. One thing though, prepare for the onslaught of people complaining about the back not being 2 way (mirrored).
I actually followed the logo portfolio project when it went live last year. great stuff.

Re: New to deck design - but not to design
Russell,
Thanks for the comments. I actually realized the two way back after looking through some others design threads. Also a comment was made to move the suit closer to the edge of the card. I also believe I was using the wrong line on the template for the edge of card, so now the white borders are correct.
here are the updated images.

Re: New to deck design - but not to design
before you start up your KS, you should know if your going to do a Bicycle branded deck or not and work up your tuck box design. you may have already done this and just kept it for the KS page. But both of these will be big questions when you launch if you do not have the Tuck box shown.
10-4 over and out
Re: New to deck design - but not to design
I dont have a preference either way. Bicycle or not. Any comments either way?
I do not have the tuck box designed it is next on the list.

Re: New to deck design - but not to design
I can definitely see where you're going with this deck design, but for me, it's too close to Stealth and Core, especially with the pip design... it may just be me though...
Though the face cards definitely have a different look to them...

Re: New to deck design - but not to design
MJF while I agree they are similar, the biggest difference is how the pip amd card designs are generated. Both the core and stealth decks use a geometric design, but they are not relegated to a grid. The spade, club and (on the core) diamond are allowed to jump the grid to create their shapes. The core is also organized arriving a circle (core). Each have their own merits, but make each deck different.

Having the "Bicycle" name always helps

Re: New to deck design - but not to design

alternate color scheme using 2 reds and 2 grays instead of blue and pink

Re: New to deck design - but not to design
I really like the design so far! One thing I'd change is maybe take out the light gray part of the back design and just have the pattern back design. Definitely keep the thin borders!
Re: New to deck design - but not to design
first concept for the box.. if i go with the bicycle brand.
Re: New to deck design - but not to design
CBJ is right. Having the Bicycle brand will help a lot. I really like the tuck box with Bicycle on it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

They look decent IMO. There's just nothing that about it that wows me.
Re: Bicycle geoDeck - LIVE on Kickstarter!
Thanks for the good luck comments and also for those who have come over to kickstarter and backed the project. Up to 3400 so far and 45 days left.

Re: Bicycle geoDeck - LIVE on Kickstarter!
I love math and like the concept of this deck. It's just a little too- plane- for me... GET IT!?
But seriously, I get that that's the point of this deck- beauty in the simplicity. Just not for me. But I wish you luck! And if the opening days of this are any indication, it looks like you'll reach your goal! And I will say that I think it's in the top percentile of good KS decks.
