Silver sackbut playing cards

Unread post by Vexe »

I got some pictures from card shop EPCS (producer of Glamor nugget), and the boss said these cards may be released soon by Dan and Dave.

Was gonna post about these...

The owner of Excellent Playing Cards Shop (EPCS), Mr Wang, created a series to spoof the Silver Slipper Casino Cards, called Silver Sackbut. They will come in 5 colors with red and black being the standard decks, the green and blue will come as a set and the purple deck will be limited. The really nice thing about them is that they are printed by USPCC.

Apparently, they will NOT be sold in China and only sold abroad (outside of China) and I suspect that all the retailers that carried the Glamor Nuggets will be stocking the Silver Sackbutt, including D&D, which was mentioned in Mr. Wang's blog. They should be coming out either this month or next.

I was lucky enough to get some during a December promotion, though I don't plan on opening them. I am looking to pick up the other colors to complete the set. :D

I just saw these pics from Wang's wechat too!

It is so cool that they are printed by USPCC, I thought they are made in Taiwan like glamor nugget.

If these fake vintage casino decks could go extinct, that would be great.

Are you sure? Glamour Nuggets do feel and smell the same as all the "Classic Finish" decks made in Taiwan.

100%

Look closely, it is not the same. I did check some of the reviews of Glamor Nuggets just now, and found a mention of Taiwan printer. Highly likely that the judgement of reviewers has been clouded by the initial verbiage on the main kickstarter saying it to be printed in Taiwan.

Why? Just why? I don't understand how projects like this get funded. Aren't like a thousand better looking decks with similar style? I dont particularly even like this back design.

Vintage Las Vegas casino decks in new, un-cancelled, and sealed condition are extremely difficult to find. And when these vintage decks are from iconic casino's like Silver Slipper, Jerry's Nugget, Dunes, or Golden Nugget, the value soars even higher. After seeing Jerry's Nugget, Dunes, and Golden Nugget decks get knocked off, I knew it would only be a mater of time before Silver Slipper got knocked off. Most mere mortals cannot get their hands on a sealed Dunes or Silver Slipper deck (or have the thousands of dollars to acquire one), and certainly wouldn't crack one open to play with (even I wouldn't open one of these decks), so many people figure the next best thing is a knock-off. Personally, I wouldn't have thought knock-off would get any traction with collectors, but the market has proven me wrong.

Given the popularity of these knock-offs, I would guess the next logical step would be for someone to get an actual license to make authentic and accurate reprints of these decks so they can legally make decks that actually look like the real thing instead of making a Jerry's Nugget knock-off by calling it Chicken Nuggets.

I have said it once and I'll say it again: Getting one of these modern printed fake vintage casino decks is like getting a Ferrari that has an engine from a Fiat. Techinally it works, but what's the point?
