I don't like the one-way courts but it's not enough to keep me from being intrigued.

Re: Ecliptic by Chris Ovdiyenko (KickStarter on Feb 1)
I kind of like one-way courts in that I haven't seen anyone doing them again until recently. Now it feels like everyone is trying them, so it is already losing its novelty. From a playing card art perspective, I like them. From card playing though, one-way courts are a pain. Also, we have had several zodiac themed cards lately. I don't see enough of the cards to know how I will react. I am tapped on playing cards though, so make something really creative and I am in.

I love Chris' work and actually like the one way courts as it allows for more of Chris' fantastic artwork!
I am definitely in on this one!

OOOOOOOOOH! Count me in! Chris' Arcana deck was one of the first I got. And it's freakin' gorgeous. Been bit by the cardist bug ever since.

Re: Ecliptic by Chris Ovdiyenko (KickStarter on Feb 1)
Just happened upon these on Kickstarter today. I must have missed the thread during the holidays. Glad I found these. I like the theme and the art work. Interesting how he is allowing the backers to choose the mix of limited and standard edition decks. What if everyone chooses the LE and very few choose the SE? Wouldn't the SE then become the LE by default?

I am just going to say it: I don't like anything about this. I don't like the courts or the tuck. The pips and the back are horrible. Chris is one of my favorite designers but I just can't give this a pass just because his previous decks are among my all time favorites. When I look at this I can't believe he designed Calaveras, Arcana and Oracle. How you go from masterpieces to this...?

I agree, not his best work. But $11 shipped for a fully custom USPCC deck (EB price)? Yes please!

You guys are crazy, the LE deck is fantastic, completely in-line with his previous work. I agree with Pablo393, giving free reign over the choice of edition is a strange decision, it's completely possible that the LE is much more popular than the SE.

Re: Ecliptic by Chris Ovdiyenko (KickStarter on Feb 1)
I have to agree here with Rap. I have everyone of Chris Decks, I love his artwork I have some of his prints but I must say this deck to me is not pretty at all.. The tuck is horrendous, the card back ugly. The basic art itself is nice but I do not like the overall look of the cards, I do not like the glowing pips... I am very sad to say this is a very easy pass for me. I also am astounded with how this deck turned out...Räpylätassu wrote:I am just going to say it: I don't like anything about this. I sadly agree with both of you. The courts are great but that's it. So sorry Chris.badpete69 wrote:I have to agree here with Rap. This back design is hideous. I can't even believe it...

The only good thing about this deck is the court design. It could have been promising but then everything else is bad.

I like the cards a lot even the back design in fact. SE I think is clearly superior to the Limited with more color.
Unfortunately I cant get over how ugly the box is...

Re: Ecliptic by Chris Ovdiyenko (KickStarter on Feb 1) (wap)
I’m confused.
Arcana, Oracle: Detail, cohesion, thoughtfulness, superior design and execution. And then this. The tuck and colour design looks cheap and uninspired. The backs are lazy.
Out of the top designers I love, and based on his previous body of work, I expected this to shine. To be sophisticated. I think it’s bordering on substandard.
Perhaps my expectations were too high. This is a firm no. Hope Chris is able to revivify his vision and usual exceptional work next time around.

Got my (colorful) LE version the other day and the tuck came out great! Perfectly embossed and really stands out more than you would think.

Re: Ecliptic by Chris Ovdiyenko
I received my deck last week so I thought I would put up some photos, trying to fix the lack of real world photos of decks when I occasionally can . I'm very happy with the deck. I was shocked all over again when I read through this thread, it's just inconceivable to me that such a solid and in-character work could be so divisive. Let's just say, I don't think I'm the crazy one for loving it lol.

Re: Ecliptic by Chris Ovdiyenko
I liked this deck. It's great if you're into astronomy and astrology lovers.
I admit the backs could have been better and I wish he would have put the actual constellation shining in the background so we can see how it actually looks in the sky. That may detract from the art of the courts though.
However this is one where I find the SE better than the LE. The colours turned out very nicely on the cards.
