COBRA™ Playing Cards

Unread post by Paul Middleton »

Our first non-LUXX release will be in stock at the end of this month folks, and it will also be our first release printed by Cartamundi (on their cardistry b9 stock - which continues to get better and getter).

I will post some photos here as soon as I have them available, but here are some screen shots of the files - the artwork is nice (Rick Davidson), simple and elegant. With a box inspired by DMC's Elites and a back inspired by the Monarchs! We're very happy with the overall look and feel of this deck. I wanted to give you guys a heads up because Murphy's and Difatta have both bought substantial amounts in advance which means they will be available pretty much worldwide on the same day we release them.

However.. we'll have a 3 day pre-order window for anyone wanting to get a nice price and pick up a free box. Something along the lines of £9.99 retail, £8.99 per deck for 4, £7.99 per deck for 12 is what you can expect. After that the retail will be the only price we sell them at.

The borders are thinner than pictured and will be as thin as CM allow, traditional faces with metallic gold ink, custom AoS, a double backer and a blank. The box will be made from premium stock with gold foil logo and detailing and will look and feel great. it's simple but effective.

It may not be to everyone's tastes and i'm sure there will be those that would have wanted full custom artwork - but we're really happy with this. It's something i've wanted to do for some time and it's a deck we will reprint based on demand, it isn't a limited edition. A deck which is elegant and simple but also feels special. Hopefully we've achieved that, we'll see in a few weeks I guess!

I like it but the tuck is kind of boring. I'll wait to see actual pics rather than judge off of the rendering.

Hopefully it won't feel that way once you get it in your hands, the DMC Elites tuck is the kind of look and feel we're aiming for.

Nice back design, but i don't understand why there are standard courts. Rick Davidson did really nice courts for your Luxx Palme & Luxx Greille decks, i think they (maybe slightly modified) would have upgraded this deck.

In a nutshell, because this deck isn't aimed at collectors. It's not a limited edition and we're not trying to blow people away with amazing artwork. It's a simple, elegant deck that will appeal to the masses who look to pick up a nice premium deck, but want it to be recognisable. For every 100 decks we sell, probably 85-90 of those feature traditional or close to traditional faces. I'm not ashamed to say it's a commercial decision - we are a business after all.

As I said in the opening thread I did guess there would be some who wanted more customisation, but the reality is that's not what we are aiming for. This is a luxury deck intended to be played with and enjoyed. It's a deck that we are working on getting into retail outlets and as such traditional suits it perfectly.

I'm all for lots of customisation, but this looks like a solid deck for playing - I'll definitely be getting some for the collection and a few for poker...

If every deck were "fully" custom it would get boring IMO.

This is now available to pre-order folks. £6.99 (30% off the retail) per deck during the 6 day pre-order window only.

This deck will be widely available upon release in a couple of weeks as both Murphys and difatta have put in significant orders.

We also tweaked the backs to be white/red rather than gold as it didn't quite pop enough.

Here's the copy...

Printed using Cartamundi's B9 Cardistry stock which has a lovely soft feel and finish, yet is very durable. With each release this stock continues to improve. Some previous decks that are printed using the same are Cardistry Touch and Butterfly Playing Cards.

COBRA™ PLAYING CARDS

Our very first release outside of our popular LUXX® series, COBRA is illustrated by the supremely talented Rick Davidson and takes inspiration from some of our favourite decks - such as DMC's Elites and the industry changing Monarchs deck from theory11.
Housed in a gorgeous soft touch burgundy 330gsm tuck box complete with gold foil COBRA logo and detailing. Traditional faces and numbers coupled with gold metallic inks on the courts and backs make COBRA a premium deck made to be used. Included in the deck for the magicians is a blank face card and a double backer.

30% OFF During the pre-order window only. The window closes Thursday 14th December at 10pm, we expect to begin despatching orders approximately 20th December.

$9.36 isn't bad! That shipping though... Might have to pony up! That's the cost of doing business overseas.

That back design is ridiculously appealing. The tucks turned out great, too.

Reminds me of T11 Monarchs. Simple and detailed two-color artwork.

COBRA is getting a reprint next month folks, with Murphys taking a considerable amount. This is now our most popular deck by far. Expect them to be widely available again soon!

We also have a few though if you can't wait: https://jpgamesltd.co.uk/the-COBRA-deck ... ying-cards" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Finally, we are also considering a gilded edition as this has been requested numerous times. Any thoughts let me know.

Rather than having gilded edges that affect handling, how about metallic or cold-foiled gold linework that go along the original red back design?

Also, is this the offical JPGames account here? :P

Yep, that's Paul who runs JPGames.

Completely agree on foil over gilding. From what I can tell on this forum (which, of course, isn't the whole market, but still), gilded edges are going out of style. Foil, on the other hand, is still all the rage (for now). I may have turned 30, but I still know what the kids go for these days 8-)
