Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
Good morning everyone
I''m the father of the 12 year old guy who has the idea about this deck
This is how the 12 year old boy see how the life start and the birth
They study at school or simply ask to us
I'd like only to invite you to better read the history on KS and see the presentation video
It is only a graphic representation by a 15 year old girl totally hand drawn
I was really honored to help these two guys to follow their dreams

Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
I kinda like that Ace of Spades actually. Custom pip placement is always nice. Joker is okay-ish but the courts and the back is where this deck really falls down. Although I apprecíate that there is actual work that went into them (can't say that on all designers who do it for the living cough Fontaine cards cough cough) I think they still require a LOT more work.

I dream of a world where wars are fought only by having dance offs. I also dream that a Finnish playing card designer would exist. The former seems more likely to happend.

Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
Thx for your constructive and sensible comments.
Of course everything can be made better.
these are decisions of the two guys involved in their project and they was really happy about their job and me and my wife too.
My question is again: did you see the video from the start to the end ?
Sometimes maybe everyone should look beyond the finger

Some context:cmossa wrote:maybe you've seen it but you have not looked at it
We believe that dreams should always come true and with this project we hope to realize one of our dreams.
I think for most of us on this forum, at least in regards to playing cards, we treat Kickstarter as a store for pre-orders. It may not have been the original intent, but that is what it has become in many cases, particularly in the collectable playing cards scene.
Even so, you can't raise money solely based on a dream. The product, the tangible realization of the dream, must be good enough for people to want to invest in it. As such, it WILL be subject to criticism, and this community may be among the more critical ones due to the sheer amount of decks and projects we see being put out on a daily basis.
Regardless of their dream and age, they should expect their product to be held to the same standards as anyone else. Some backers may not, but not everyone, that's just how the world we live in works. Whether that's fair or not is a separate discussion.
PS. Personally, I never watch videos for playing card projects because they never tell me anything that pictures of the product doesn't. I don't have enough dispoable income to spend on other people's dreams (although I wish I did), and so I only need pictures, information (printer, types of ink/foil etc) and the price + shipping cost to determine whether or not it is a deck I want to add to my collection.

Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
Watched the video. I don't know why I bothered cmossa. All it showed was the boy showing the cards, repeating courts, to the girl and the aces. Jokers were shown then superimposed with what I'll assume is a picture of you and your wife hugging.
I, like MagicFingerz, scroll down the campaign page to see the cards, printer, and tuck case. I didn't need the video to show me that. Unless there's some secret to it I missed it.
I'll give your son and the girl for trying their dream and hope they don't lose any more dreams if this most likely fails.

Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
It's half a day I think if write to you or not. I've decided now to do it
I'm doing it only to better explain you why sometime happens things that are difficult to understand like also to find on kickstarter a project like this. Everything has a story. It is not only what you can see
Premise
- I do not want compatime
- I do not expect any money from anyone
- I ask a simple answer to this question: what would you do in my place?
I asked you to see the video just for a reason
do you see hair in the head of the baby under his cap or in the end when he lies down?
no one can have hair after 2 years of chemotherapy
After six months of bed his hands began to make magic with the cards in place of his legs with a balloon
magic has become his life
when one day he came and told me all his ideas point by point: he had everything in his head. Let's make our own deck of cards talking about life
the J, the Q, the K
the jolly must be a hug between you and mom and ace a kiss
If we sell our card decks, mom can stay home and not go back to work
these things make your heart explode more than when the doctors told us that he had a tumor at the femur
the magic is to see him walking with his prosthesis
for all of us this is LIFE DECK
We do it not to make profit but only to do something to give happiness to our son and if this is to try to produce card decks we will also do 1000 of kickstarter projects. when he does not want them to do more we will disappear as we have appeared
now you can reply to the question I made at the beginning

other campaign will follow after the first because he has already in his mind other Decks

Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
It's a cute story, but cute stories don't sell playing cards here (or anywhere).
Great artwork, concepts, and innovations sell playing cards. This falls very short on all fronts IMO.
I could have ALS, draw scribbles on some draft paper, and say that historic currency inspired me. That's not going to convince anyone to invest in my product considering that the Federal 52 series is out there. Maybe my grandma would, but even that's a stretch.
Your family isn't the first to be impacted by cancer or other disease, and you won't be the last. You have my sympathy as a human being, but not my investment as a playing card collector. This just isn't the medium for that stuff.
There are also plenty of good causes that Theory11 (among others) have printed decks for. It's been done.

Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
I understand your desire to help the child realize his dream. I think you can do it in a simpler way, than Kickstarter, as cards collectors buy the decks from points of good or unusual design. For example, you can print the deck yourself in a digital printing office - these are not "real" cards, but it should not be expensive. Also you can print a small number (starting from 1) of real decks here http://www.makeplayingcards.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. It will cost more, but it will be real cards on card stock.

Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
Hello thanks for your suggestion. I already print a deck there but the quality is really ZERO. The cards are near unusable. We print the prototype to MPC but also the French casino line quality are not good as USPCC.sashado wrote:I understand your desire to help the child realize his dream. But at the same time, I believe we have an education responsibility towards our kids. And that is to have realistic expectations on those dreams, that they cannot happen magically, that we have to work for it and to dedicate ourselves to it. With time we realize some dreams are totally out of reach, and then we pursue other dreams. Or we realize that our dreams are not yet ready to be fulfulled, that we have other milestones to achieve first, and then we work on them, one at a time, and we learn along the way.
Sometimes we fail, and there is a lot learn from those failures. Where I live, the education system has been reformed so kids have less chance of failing a grade. But it is wrong, it makes them lazy. If there is not fear of failure, they put less effort into their study, and they content will achieving less. When you fail, and then get back on your feet again, you know how it feels, that you must work to succeed, and that failure is not the enough, just a step. This teaches an amazing life lesson.
The condition of your child does not changing anything to that. Getting a deck printed needs more than a kickstarter campaign. Paying to print a deck and giving some away is not the same achievement as having it funded by people who want to have it willfully in their hands.
And pity is not respect. You do not want to child to be pitied, nor to have an easy life because people feel sorry for him. You want people to learn to know your child for who he is, not his condition. You want people to treat him exactly as others would be, for who he is.
That is exactly the reaction you got at first on this forum. People critized the project for what it is. If the project does not get funded, get back to the drawing board, rethink what can be done differently, what can be improve. It is the right thing to propose a deck to your liking, but to get it funded you will need it to appeal enough to other people to commit their money. Everybody has a different way of communicating. Go past the negative and see what can be improved, ask if you must.
Creating a deck of cards as a family project is an amazing experience that gets you closer to each other. Whether it gets funded or not, you will have already achieved something big as a family. That's more than the average family will ever do.

Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
I totally simpatize with you by doing this KS project to somehow help your child through this pain proccess, but unfortunately you'll not find much support here, not because we are a bunch of heartless guys, but we mostly collect playing cards, and these as playing cards are only good because of one thing: they are to be printed by USPCC, other than that is just another design, and not much appealing, at least to me.
I think you would gather more support if you share your story in a couple of support groups for people with cancer, I'm sure you will find there the support to have this deck funded and realize your child's dream.
Don't get me wrong, if I had enough money to spend I could very well pleadge for this, but unfortunatelly there are too many good playing cards projects right now on KS for me to spend money on your project.
Wish you all the luck with your project and hope you and your familly manage to get through this situation well.

Re: Life Deck: Live on KS
I perfectly understand what you mean but we don't want to share this project in those groups.sms69x wrote:I totally simpatize with you by doing this KS project to somehow help your child through this pain proccess, but unfortunately you'll not find much support here, not because we are a bunch of heartless guys, but we mostly collect playing cards, and these as playing cards are only good because of one thing: they are to be printed by USPCC, other than that is just another design, and not much appealing, at least to me.
If you note I never mentioned the "problem" in the description project because I don't want people can think that I want to have profit on my health son situation.
I wrote what I wrote you in these past posts only because I did not like some word read.
Of course I perfectly understand and I totally agree with you about what is a real playing card deck.
I think now that each situation is clear in all of us.
I inform you that you will find surely some other deck on KS from us
I really hope the best to you all and thanks very much considering our amazing LIFE DECK lol lol lol

I promise that I will not bore you anymore but I'd like to share with you all this message received some day ago.
This guy sent us a donation without buying a deck. I asked him why. Below his amazing reply
Hi creator, to be honest, I used to be a cards collector, but I turned visually impaired a few years ago. I haven't been buying cards that often since then, although I cannot see your designs and the shipping is too high for me, but the back story in your campaign sounded inspiring and the design description was interesting, so I chipped in hoping it's helpful. Good luck with the campaign!

Good luck Creator. Whether it is successfully funded or not, you will make new associations and friends for sure.cmossa wrote:I promise that I will not bore you anymore but I'd like to share with you all this message received some day ago.
