Slavic Special Playing Cards

Unread post by Räpylätassu »

Bought this deck from Russia, it's 100 % custom poker size deck printed by Nage Cards in Saint Petersburgh this year at 2017. As far as I know it's designed by "Jokercards" but I couldn't find any information about them online.

Good things: The design is quite incredible, I don't really have a single problem with it. The tuck box is nice and sturdy and it even has gold foil on it.

Bad things: The cards are horrible quality, incredibly flimsy. They did good one handed fans... for like a minute. I took those pictures and now they clump like hell. The cellophane from the tuck had to taken out on about 8 different pieces as it broke when I removed it and did not come out "naturally." The cards are sligthly better than the worst cards from China, but not that much.

Overall: I can recommend to get this deck ONLY if you REALLY like the design. I don't usually care about the quality that much, but this is so bad that it's putting even me off. The cards do look spectacular however.

These cards were designed by Mila Losenko . Jokercards are the producers.
Nage Cards are a bit hit and miss with their quality , some are ok, but some like this slavic deck are very poor.

Jase!! Glad to see you posting!!

I'll have to keep my eye on for more custom decks from Russia, there seem to be a bunch that most of us have never even heard before. Have any you can recommend, btw?

I have a few personal favorites
" Palekh" designed by Alexi Orleanski , the 2015 version he produced himself is the best version out there ,the 2001 version printed by the colour printing plant is not as good quality and the colours seem muted.(i did scans of these for the worldwide some time back)
" Modern" designed by veronika Nikolaeva . this was printed by the colour printing plant back in 1996, Quite abstact design but i like it.
" Hermit Park" or "Hermits of St Petersburg" designed by Alexei Bobrinsky and printed by Nage cards in 2014. i just love these cards ,maybe not for everyone though.

These are a few of the top of my head, there are literally hundreds out there that are pretty good (i think anyway)
i am on the look out for a "Blosyak" deck from 2009 (see Dazzelguts`s post in worldwide). these are pretty scarce so i may as well try and catch the wind... but you never know eh.

Hi,

beautiful deck, thanks for sharing... I have been tempted to buy some decks from Russia, but I am hesitant because of the bad reputation (not trustworthy) of some of the Russian websites.

Can you recommend some with which you had a good experience in buying decks?

Thx!

So far I have only bought two decks from Russia, from these two sellers:

http://www.ebay.com/usr/krasaru2014" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.ebay.com/usr/dmitry_tm2012" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Both of them shipped fast and I had no issues with them. Dmitry also has a bunch of decks from other countries as well, some opened some unopened, for quite high prices though. I think that if you stick with sellers from ebay who have positive reviews, you should be fine.

I attentively read your comment on quality of cards which are offered by my publishing house (JokerCards).
Thanks for your opinion! But ...this very serious remark which I couldn't ignore.
I addressed the director of the company of "Nage Cards" Gennady Makarov and asked to comment on this problem.
Further answer of mister Makarov:
"My company in the market of playing cards since 2006. We professionally make only playing cards and accessories for a game.
Till 2012 we used some types of art paper which no relation to playing cards and from this paper made cards of economy class (at the request of customers),
children's cards and cards for board games.
But the last 5 years we use only card papers from «Arjowiggins» and «August Koehler AG», smooth and with Linen covering. Surely with a black inside layer!
Certainly, paper for cards has various density, rigidity and thickness, as well as any paper. It is quite possible that collectors hadn't liked thickness!? But if thickness and rigidity of cards isn't pleasant to some collectors, it doesn't mean that paper of poor quality! It is absurdity!
I very regret, but if quality of professional paper for playing cards («Casino Classic», 300 gsm) from «August Koehler AG» (which has been used at production of «Slavic cards»!)
it is even worse, than the worst Chinese paper … probably, it is necessary to report about this «A.Koehler AG»?
Means, they have to stop production, check quality of the paper and, perhaps, to close the business!
Then it is simpler to them not to produce paper, and to buy it from the Chinese factories! What difference if quality similarly bad!?
Of course, it is not serious arguments! Personal ambitions or personal claims of certain collectors yet not an occasion to say that it is bad paper! It isn't professional!
Everyone has to go about the own business! My company makes cards by orders from «Kickstarter» today and I believe that we would receive many claims if it were bad cards.
We have made only a small part of «Slavic cards» and if there is a reason for production of tougher cards then other part of cards will be made on more dense paper.
We will increase thickness and rigidity! I hope, all will be happy!"
