I am trying to learn Cardistry and was feeling confused about which deck to pick. Neo made the decision easy for me.

Creator's comments about the new stock from his printer has piqued my interest too. Always on lookout for decks with a new stock and finish.

10AM is ok for me but 08:30 is nono)) Thanks)

@Bruno, @guru,

Well... Why this paper is different? They bought wrong paper... Wrong stiffness (softer) and ... :ugthink: smooth. Nobody there prints on such soft and smooth paper. Right? They create a linen texture on top in order to sell... Pure business but the end result is incredible. "Crushed" stock? This paper is a little softer that Bee. I like it so much! That's it. :geek:

You're right. Randy is the one creator who always comes up with some of the best card back designs.....

Your comment made me remember a quote that most of the great inventions were the result of a mistake or accidental innovation. I sincerely wish that this new stock comes to be as great as you are saying it to be. This and Cartamundi's 9C2 finish etc. is good for the Playing Card industry. It will make everyone not to be complacent due to the past laurels and strive to be more innovative.

In for 2 unlimited EB's. I love the design of this deck. That and the USPCC printing and great price make this a no-brainer for me. Thanks for making it so easy. Best of luck on the campaign.

You're talking about using a smooth finish?

So... For what it's worth, I'm really not a fan of the smooth textured cards. I have yet to find a deck where the smooth works out well. Textured (such as the linen finishes) cards slide better on the card table, and also slide better against other cards for fanning purposes.

I love the idea of playing with the stock stiffness / suppleness / density / thickness. I love the idea of experimenting with the coating. But, when it comes to texture, smooth (counter intuitively) does not make for good slipperiness.

I agree with you about the smoothness and so would most professional soccer players. In 2010 the Jabulani ball was created for the FIFA World Cup and it's "skin" was nearly a flawless sphere, which you would think would be ideal (similar to a smooth playing card finish). But on the contrary- when there is less surface roughness, the ball doesn't travel as easily or as far. Players criticized it for it's terrible flight paths and unpredictability. So in 2014 when the Brazuca was made they added more "irregularities" on the surface (similar to dimples on a golf ball) which lead to better ball movement and more player praise. Here's a graph to show the difference between distributed sideways forces:

And there entire article is here: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/ ... e18906534/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In summation, Alan is right and there's science to prove it :uggrin:

No. It's just a smooth paper with post-processing. They create a texture. If you know the Diamon finish - almost no texture and smooth. But this one is in the middle (Diamond vs Classic).

Phew! Okay, then. Excellent. Thanks for putting my mind at ease! And, thanks for the photos, that helps a lot with understanding what you're describing. I very much like what I see.

Thanks Allan for asking the question and Alex for the pictures which made things very clear. What I have seen is that the varnish or coating is also a very important factor and if you look around, you will find that almost every printer has a finish named linen available with them but it still doesn't match Bicycle's Air Cushion finish. Post processing after the dimpled pattern on the cards is what makes or breaks the handling.
