Maidens by Joker and the Thief

Unread post by Räpylätassu »

In a midst of all the new bullshit cardistry decks, each worse than the other, I thought about opening a thread for something actually good: The new Joker and the Thief deck. I don't think they have released the name yet, but they have released a bunch of pictures. Here are some:

Not quite my cup of tea, but I can certainly appreciate the quality of the art on these. A welcome contrast to the recent decks you refer to, indeed.

My constructive criticism would be to make the courts slightly bigger (or add something else) to fill out the card, and to make the red on the backs - particularly the corner elements - stand out more.

I agree with Tom- too much white space on the courts. Also, the day of the dead theme has been done to death, no pun intended. The art is fantastic though.

I personally don't mind the courts as they are - but do agree the palette is a little muted for my usual taste.

Tom's idea of picking a colour to be more vivid (a la Schindler's List) could certainly lift it a little. The red is a sensible choice - looking at the jack of hearts the index seems almost to blend with the base shade of the cards.

I'm digging it enough to pick one or two up based on the price, and I agree with everyone's comments so far.

I can't wait to see the tuck case for this.

So many questions: Can they run a smooth campaign? Will these be priced correctly? Can they provide reasonable shipping & fulfillment? Will these be blown out on Touch of Modern just as soon as they're finally produced?

From the preview/teaser pics, I can't tell if the faces have a white background, light-blue background, or both. I tend to avoid decks who's color on the background of the face cards fail to match the color of the border on the backs.

According to J&T's Facebook page EB's should be 10 $ with free US shipping. For US customers that is not a bad price no matter how you look at it. International shipping will most likely once again cost bananas I'm guessing.

Sorry for that.

I agree the red should be darker to stand out more. I'd like to know the true color of the face cards too.

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd let you know that we are launching in just under an hour. We have a limited amount of $10 early birds available!
We read your concerns about the colours being dull. This is just from our photos, our editing muted the colours slightly. You'll be able to see on the campaign and video the true colour of the deck, it pops while still holding true to the aesthetic we are going for.

We hope to see you at the launch!

Cheers,
James

Thanks Trungbreezy! We appreciate your support.

If you got your hands on Dystopia, you'll know what Maidens will feel like. Dystopia's crush stock was just so surprising. They handle so well!

Cheers!

Pricing is great, but I am so torn on these. I got one, don't want to break my set from J&T but - the back is almost a "break" for me. It needs work.

Now, the other gotcha in my mind is that the Day of the Dead theme has been beaten to death at this point, even though I love some of them, this one is a "me, too" mostly.

Yep, only a dozen single Early Bird pledges left. Those go quickly!

Added the project trackers to the OP using the

Code: Select all

 [kickup]
code / macro / shortcut.

"kickstarter" adds one "kicktraq" adds the other, but "kickup" does both at once.

Thanks for your support Mike and Serubi!

We appreciate your comments and feedback. We consider Maidens to be lightly inspired by Day of the Dead and decided we could weave our own story into the deck. We have tried to focus more on the mystical, paranormal aspects of energy, and how souls can transcend our world yet still reach out to us. Yes, ghostly, and yeah a little bit day of the dead haha. To each their own, but we're so glad that the response has been positive. Thank you so much again, guys!

IMO nothing beats Chris Ovdiyenko's Midnight Calaveras deck...

I just haven't been a fan of the Joker and the Thief designs since their first 3 decks (Blue, Gold, and Red).

Hey everyone!

Just thought we'd update you all and let you know that we've opened up a special 3 deck tier at early bird rates!

This also means that some backers have swapped their pledges and some spots in the lower early bird tier have opened up. If you were on the fence about jumping on board the Maidens campaign, here's your chance to get involved - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jo ... ying-cards" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
