GAIA Playing Cards - Live on KS

Unread post by MattRPC »

Hey guys,

I wanted to share my latest project in collaboration with 17 year old artist Ben Sinclair. It's a fun and colorful deck based off 4 ecological biomes with court cards on animals that inhabit them. Printed by USPCC.

A beautiful design that should have a very broad appeal - if only it gets the attention it deserves!

Lovely work.

I'm liking the moonlight edition :)
What will happen to the other 2,000 decks?
I hope they won't be available at half the cost with a different seal!

Thank you :D

The other 2,000 decks will be sold at the full retail price without a seal (they won't be sold cheaper than on the Kickstarter)

With the sealed version, we wanted to make something special just for the backers and offer it at a reduced price

You almost got me with the moonlight edition. I like them a lot, but not enough to make up for the standards, which don't really grab me. And to get three moonlights?... That's a lot of standard decks I'm not super excited about to go along with them.

Almost had me though.

In my humble opinion, this is the perfect example of what makes me so confused in Kickstarter. I respect everyone's taste but I cannot understand why such a nice deck, with such a good and careful design job is being funded so slowly. I think it deserves to be funded.

Thanks Max. I'm trying to get the word out as much as I can. Creating the Moonlight Edition helped speed things up, hopefully it keeps up the momentum! The good news is it looks like they will definitely be funded and produced.

The artist of the deck, Ben Sinclair, was featured on Kent News with an interview on the deck.

We're nearing the goal now and have a new announcement coming up in the next few days. As someone who oversees hundreds of decks, this is going to turn out to be a really cool and unique one. They really caught my eye when I was approached by Ben to help produce them. In the home stretch now so lets make it a reality! :)

Thanks everyone

Why not produce just 500 decks? To me the numbered seal in this case doesn't interest me much when it's actually not that limited, seems like artificial rarity more than anything. Also why does it seem like there is no way to add on a single Moonlight deck or to pledge for 1 of each?

To address the "why didn't you just produce only 500 of the Moonlight Edition" question:

USPCC will not allow you to print less than 1,000 decks. And the quote for 1,000 decks was the same as 2,500 decks. Obviously it makes more sense to go with 2,500 since at only 1,000 we would have to price them at $20 each. To add a bit of a rarity factor for collectors we decided to only seal and number 500 of them and offer them exclusively to backers.

Also since there are only a small amount of numbered decks I am taking requests to reserve specific numbers if you would like. If you backed and want a certain number just let me know.

Appreciate it! I personally love the design and artwork that went into this. I'm a fan of animals and wildlife and the cards resonated with me which is why I took on the project with Ben.

I hope that you could tell him to join us here :D The artwork really is splendid, this is a serious contender to the Rookie deck of the year IMO. Also I said I like the back already but the pips as well really caught my eye.

Agreed (and here are my reasons why).

I think one of the major reasons that good decks don't get funded has to do with marketing. These days you don't just need a high quality deck in order to succeed, but you need to find ways to get the word out with positive exposure, especially since there are so many projects competing for attention. The world of custom playing cards is becoming a crowded field, and you need to make your product stand out and get noticed with reviews and more.

Matt has also done a good job with some of the recent updates and ideas, which all help increase the appeal of this project. I'm pleased to see that it's now less than $1000 away from being funded, which is fantastic, and much deserved!

I've been looking at this deck every day for 3 weeks. It just isn't "my style".

HOWEVER...

The artwork is so tremendous that I had to pledge for a full set of the court prints. And I would be missing out if I didn't get a couple of each deck, too.
