Titanic decks update

Unread post by badpete69 »

So I cleaned up the Titanic decks in the database. There were 2 entries ( 1 life and 1 death) so I added the missing 10 decks and updated the 2 existing ones. Some folks will have to go update their entry to match what they have. I have talked with RJ and he will get me the exact numbers of each class for Life and Death. I know the total number of life and death decks, and I know the total numbers of each class but not how they split between life and death. I will update the entries as soon as I get the amounts

You have the following decks for Titanic:

- Titanic Unbranded Edition
- Titanic Deluxe Edition First Class
- Titanic Deluxe Edition Second Class
- Titanic Deluxe Edition Third Class
- Titanic Life Crew [Bicycle]
- Titanic Life First Class [Bicycle]
- Titanic Life Second Class [Bicycle]
- Titanic Life Third Class [Bicycle]
- Titanic Death Crew [Bicycle]
- Titanic Death First Class [Bicycle]
- Titanic Death Second Class [Bicycle]
- Titanic Death Third Class [Bicycle]

I would think it would be be nicer to have less clutter on the site but I guess it's fine.

Yeah, it kind of is insane. They were sold as different and numbered accordingly so it's within reason. I hope this new fad of custom labels ends soon.

Do you guys want a precise database or a half ass job. Victor do you know how many scans i had to add because some people don't even bother putting pics or just put one pic in their rush to get credit for adding the deck. Each deck I add to the database I make sure the info is precise. Take all the decks lawrence is releasing on his site with special labels. Those are unique decks even though they are the same cards. the tuck box is part of the deck and if it makes the product unique in some way, then it should be in.

I even added the 2 Viking decks that were upside down in the tuck or backwards I should say , thus creating a unique product ( in this case for a sealed deck)

It doesn't hurt the database to have more info as far as I know and I like precision. i don't know why you must always have a negative comment to say. Wouldn't it be better to have written " I would like to thank Pierre for taking the time to add all the extra Titanic decks and checking with RJ to get the precise final numbers

Would that have hurt you to type?

To be clear, I support this effort and already thanked you for it. I just think the trend of doing limited editions based on seals alone is insane. I actually hate seals in general. However, that is the reality of the decks and it is better to have them listed this way.

I was hoping so, but the 'you guys' made me want to clarify since in hindsight my comment could be taken the wrong way.

On a related note, below is the current guidelines for PCDB on this and related situations. Besides Victor, does anybody else think this should be altered? Ideally we would prefer additional fields or related variants of a type 'seal swap' or 'tuck swap' added to the structure of the database where there is a base deck and then option to add details for a number of seals or tuck variations that also include details, quantity data, and add any/all to collections, but that is almost certain NOT to happen. So given the situation we have now and have I've seen of v2, I propose this remains the same. However, if anybody has a more elegant way of dealing with this that still retains the ability to specify quantity and have people add different tucks and unique seals to their collections I would love to hear about it.

* Tuck swaps should be listed as separated entries
* Seal swaps, those decks that have a limited edition primarily due to a custom and usually serial numbered sticker/seal can also be added as separate entries. However, all decks within that seal are listed together (if it was a small run of 5, do not list each individual deck as separate entries).

Well you already know my point of view. The main thing is that as we all know a picture is worth a thousand words. to me I do not mind adding an extra entry for a different seal. And I think the Titanic deck is very unique with all those uniques seals. I just can see trying to read some deck notes that tells me about different seals, but seeing them is so powerful that I am all in favor to keep the separate entries

I would like to thank Pierre for taking the time to add all variations of Titanic deck and all the other decks he adds with full tuck scans. I'm all for it as it makes for a more complete and better database :) On that note I would also like to thank everybody else who keeps the database updated, great team effort :)

yes this is definitively a team effort. I have done but a very small piece of the pie. I wasn't really looking for kudos btw but trying to teach someone to sometimes see the positive sides of things
