HOWTO: Create image collage from your Portfolio52 collection

Updated on Feb 15, 2018 for current version of Portfolio52 (this tutorial was originally created under early PlayingCardDB version and then updated for Portfolio52 on Oct 21, 2015).

Yes, it is still possible to create an image stitch/collage in Portfolio52 like it was in PlayingCardDB. It's still pretty easy, but requires a few additional steps.

1) Go to your collection and select any view of your collection, although the small grid view makes it easiest to get all images loaded for large collections. Don't be alarmed by the apparent small size of the images, they actually are larger sized and just artificially reduced on this screen so it's fine to use this option.
2) Scroll to the bottom of the page and wait for more to auto load, then repeat until all decks are loaded. TIP - using page down key works well here.
3) Save the entire page (on windows in Chrome just right click on white part of page and select 'Save As', then be sure to use the 'Webpage, Complete' option)
4) Locate the saved files, sort by file type and remove all non image files. The deck images will be in jpg format while, most of the supporting site images are png format so should be easy to find, but you may want to scan through and delete any others that were missed.
5) In this version of P52 it now will also download the tuck back image as well, which means you'll have to delete them unless you want them included. With Windows just use the search option in the folder window in File Explorer and search for 'back', then delete the results.
6) Yes! You now have your entire collection in individual image files! Just use software of your choosing to generate a single collage from these source files or do whatever you wish.

NOTE - Some programs may not handle png or other files than jpg so you may want to convert any files that downloaded as other formats into jpg, but with these new versions of P52 that shouldn't be the case any longer.

As for how to create the actual collage, you're on your own there. The best options previously mentioned are either no longer available or have changed. I haven't seen another great option that is free and doesn't have limits in number of images supported or is free of watermarks. Previously Picasa was the best free option and is now discontinued.
Shape Collage is pretty great as well except it adds a watermark for free version, although it's not horribly intrusive. It only supports heart natively, and you can download any solid shape (example) and have it create collage based on it, but the grid option doesn't keep deck sizes the same. For online http://www.getloupe.com/ has the most options, but it adds watermarks for free version as well, leaving us with http://www.collage.com/ which WAS the best free option, but it's now focused on selling items from the collage and now limited in number of images and have to work around the product (can be done though with a smaller number - just save the image from a large canvas or blanket product).

Thats great Nate! Just being able to take the images from the DB to have them on my computer all together is wonderful. As for collage I'd like to see this shape: [MURRAY]

By the way I love that you have the Masterpiece Looney Tunes deck  , we really do have similar tastes. And I'm jealous of your Atari deck  Thank you for correcting the company to USPCC on the Looney Tunes - I'd missed that.

Just FYI - I tested this out with the latest version of Portfolio52 and it still mostly works. There's a few additional steps and details that I added to the instructions in the first post above.

Does this not work anymore? It just seems to save the page. How do you get the pictures from that?

Check how you are saving in step 3

Note you also need to use the list view, otherwise it will also download the back images. I have not found an easy way around this either.

I've updated the steps for this process for making it work with the current version of Portfolio 52. However, I don't see any current options that are free that were as good as Picasa or the old collage.com site. Shape Collage is probably the best option if you make it large enough in the application and then resize it after making the watermark blend away or I think the first few exports don't have the watermark and initially are less intrusive.
