Ok - only loosely DIY; more a repurposing.

Ikea do a wall rack designed to have hooks and mirrors and other accessories mounted on it:

But you can buy them without any accessories - and they are the exact right size to hold decks of cards

This one is 118cm long, costs £10 and holds approx 18 decks

There are also 55cm versions for £5 which hold about 8 decks

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I was planning to get this one and make it work (http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/produ ... #/40126069), but the dimensions of the one you listed are much better suited to decks. Clicking 'buy'!!!

I have the same shelves that EcNate linked to. They work well with plate stands for the cards but I will be checking these out. They seem to be in stock at my local Ikea so thanks for the tip. :ugdance:

Step one complete!

Each row is actually two of the shorter shelves side by side as the long ones wouldn't fit between my window and the wall!

The shelf underneath is a floating shelf made of 3.5" reclaimed pine

There are 5 more long shelves to go up on the adjacent wall (and plenty of space to expand upwards in the future!

I was inspired by montecarlojoe's display and wanted to do something similar. However, it took me almost a year to get my act together and by the time I did, Ikea wasn't selling the shelves he used anymore. Luckily, I was able to find these Knoppang picture rails http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40291790/. I actually mounted them upside down so that there is no rail to obscure the cards. I think it turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself. Looking back at his original pics, however, I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten a few more. At least these are still in stock and the ship them so I don't have to actually set foot in an Ikea. Anyway, thanks to Joe for the inspiration and I'll be sure to update if I actually make any more additions.

Looks good, but if you don't set foot inside IKEA, how are you going to enjoy their wonderful little meatballs?

The two rows of shelves just looked a little bare so I added two more rows:

The cost per shelf was very inexpensive and they were easy to install. I am very pleased with the results and I have dubbed this area of the room "Cardlandia".

PS: In case you are wondering, that is a folding table with a closeup pad for practicing cardistry. It's covered with a scarf to keep the dust off.
