My Collection and Card Case

Unread post by mook »

Just thought I'd show you lot the case I built for my cards as part of my Physiotherapy treatment. I had a stroke a couple of years ago, right around the time I was getting interested in cards, and I decided on the case as my project.

That's absolutely stunning. Really love it. I have to build a new wall in my (rental) house to put something like that.
I've been wanting a display like this for really long but can't place at this moment.
Double purpose work, amazing result. I hope it also helped your recovery!

Thanks,

It's made of stained pine, and measures W 36" x H 28", and hinges at the top. The front plate is perspex, glass would have been too heavy for the frame.

It helped me a lot, thanks for asking.

Here is the door open. To negate any imbalance, I put the hinges at the top.

And this picture shows the magnet that seals the door closed. You can see it under the deck of Karnival cards as a round silver dot.

Sorry about the naff quality of the pics - I'm using the camera on my phone, which is a bit iffy.

Pretty cool, I like it.
How long did it take you to make? and did you have prior woodworking experience?

Thanks, shaitani.

Some months, but it was a morning every week. Part of a rehabilitation program from the after care unit at the NHS.

I had no prior experience whatsoever, always did horribly at Woodwork at school, too!

They are a skilled, friendly and helpful bunch at the workshop however, so making it was a genuine pleasure! And I got a fantastic place to display my burgeoning card collection to boot.

Very impressive work! I created some of the modified shadow box frames, but couldn't imagine doing one from scratch. Even though I'm pretty good with rough construction, these finer woodworking projects just don't agree with my lack of skills! Super cool and hope the rehabilitation continues to go well for you!

Happy collecting!

Sorry for the late reply. Been a busy couple o' weeks!

Thanks for the compliments, ecNate. I like shadow box frames - have you got any pictures of your work?

I wish I could say it's all skills developed, but most of the credit has to go to the Physiotherapy Heavy Workshop in Llanfairfechan, North Wales. Really nice folk, and talented in that casual, quiet manner of all master craftsmen.

Thanks for your thoughtful well-wishes.
