My Collection So Far

Unread post by Adonael »

Hey guys, my name is Adonael, from Australia. Just want to give you a look at my collection. I started with Kickstarter cards and have mostly stuck with that so far, I'm mostly about custom courts and artwork that don't look like standard courts. I have these photos of every deck for safekeeping lol. Being in Australia, most decks to me are actually a $20-30 proposition!

That's about it until I have some more to show. Like I said, it's an expensive hobby to have here, and I'm in no position to have it lol. I have a long wish list which includes decks such as Muertos Celebration, Angelarium, Sideshow Freaks, Pocono Modern, Rarebit Copper, Third Man Records, Animal Kingdom, ChiTAG 2014, Medley's, Russian Folk Art, The Woodland, Prisma Visions and Ultimate Deck. Hopefully one day I'll be able to add them to the collection! Unfortunately I currently have no means or option to display my decks so I keep them in this antique hammered brass fire wood box, but in the future hope to build some sort of display. And yes, I do open all my decks to enjoy their contents

Hello and welcome. Nice collection you have there. I know how hard shipping to OZ is. I've shipped more than a few decks there and I always cringe when I send the quote. BTW, I really like the box you have your decks stored in.

Hi and welcome to the forum Adonael. :D
i agree with nECr0MaNCeD that your collection is very cool.
Shipping costs to anywhere nowadays is a nightmare. It`s this problem that has me cutting down on kickstarters.
I only back (what i think of) the very best nowadays, which is around 1 deck per month... if that.
Thank god for e-bay

Wow, I LOVE your consistent display photos. I think we need to get you as an editor on Portfolio52 so you can add them to the entries there! PM me if you are interested and can be trusted to be responsible. ;) Although I am very serious about that. :D

That box you keep them in is super cool! What is the engraving on the side?

Seems to be a family feast of some sort, and on top is a horse and cart, actually I've completely filled it now and don't know what I'm going to do lol a display case is still a very long way off until we move to a bigger place :/ Also thanks for the offer, but given my late ass reply maybe that ship has sailed haha

The foil accents on the back of each Gemini Noctis card are simply wonderful, very striking. Had a tough time getting a decent photo of Golden Oath too, in person it's something else, though I still prefer the Icons, well the one I could afford anyway haha would've liked an Icons Signature too but ah well

I feel sh**ty bumping an old thread like this but I've got a question for the OP. You mentioned a while back that that on your wishlist was a Russian Folk Art deck, it wouldn't happen to be Natalia Silva's Russian folk art deck would it??

@Portcullis
It would actually, however as you'll see I now have it in my collection, just couldn't resist

Time for an update, including a couple old decks I realised the pictures were missing for. The tuck and back for Titans deck are amazing in person, still don't like the courts though, Sanctus has become one of my all time favourite decks, and favourite from Lotrek, and the other that I particularly love from this update is Sins Anima and the striking red of the cards:

Well, that answers that question ..... I only asked cos I just happen to have Seal #1/75 of the Russian deck CE

Which is the deck above Luke Wadey's Grid? That's kinda cool.

Soooooooo much Lotrek [not jealous at all]

That's the Realms blue deck, it sure is shiny. There's no way I can afford Lotrek's decks, which is why the number of projects I back keeps decreasing and ending up on the wish list lol because if it's a choice of one Lotrek or 4 others, Lotrek always wins, I'm sure you understand haha

Thought it was time to update as it's been a while. I've actually sold over 80 of my decks in the past year locally in two bulk lots to get rid of the ones I wasn't crazy about or ended up being disappointing. So the previous images are no longer accurate. I've also had to really focus my collecting due to lack of funds so the projects I have backed are few and far between these days. Here we go:

Aaaaaand done:
CardsPart31.jpg
As you can see I managed to get some fills for stuff I was missing, and I have a couple more on the way. I've decided not to include error/test etc type decks in my collection as it's just not realistic to acquire them and I don't feel any lack of completeness without them. There are a couple white whales I'll probably never be able to afford/find lol like Arabesque Silver (edit: got it!), Omnia Suprema (edit: got it!) or Icons Signature (edit: got it!) but I can dream. I have plans to build displays for them too finally, maybe in a future update a year or two from now I'll have that done!

Nah it's fine, once I reach 10 or so new decks I spend 10 minutes taking the photos before storing them with the rest. Definitely worth doing to keep track of things, and they really helped me a lot when I was deciding what to sell, all I had to do was go through the photos to see the tucks and cards.

Just had a chat to a mate of mine who sells playing cards retail. Conquerors selling for ~US$85 the pair. Not a bad return on US$30.

I've also recently seen the Conquerors prices and they're higher than I expected, I joined Patreon and became a Thirdway patron because of them and it's been worth it. Of course my sealed decks are all open (because I buy with no intention of ever selling) so that value is gone haha.

You have some great cards in the collection and your way of displaying them is very satisfying. Perhaps someday my deck of Culturae Animalis cards will be a proud addition. I admit, lokoing through your images there are some that make my eyes drool.

A brief update! I'm cleaned out, so other than the Modern Idols and Room 17 I'm pretty much done for the year. Plus there are some decks here that maybe people would like to see the cards out in the open for. I got 4(!) of my white whales (the Silver Arabesque is even better than the Gold, if that's even possible, mind-blowing), so overall a satisfying year :), I just wonder why almost all the good projects/releases waited until October to show themselves, I wasn't at all prepared and am missing out on most, spread them out next year!

While, for my personal well-being, I just have to express my despise for the choosen background - you could at least iron the bedsheet  - of your pictures, I definetly have to seriously thank you a thousand times for those pictures Adonael. They saved me a lot of money :D .

At this point it's just about consistency as I started taking them years ago when I had no other options lol and they're meant to be purely functional and quick. I only share them so that they may be of help to others like you! I've lost count of the times when researching a deck I could only find the promotional pictures and not what it actually looks like -_- good to know they are indeed helpful. That's kinda why I haven't removed the decks I've sold, though I would like to at least put X's on them or something when I have time.
