[strangeseraph] My Playing Card Collection

Unread post by strangeseraph »

The small and meek collection of me, Jenny, that is bound to grow in leaps and bounds. Its already grown by three decks in the last few days. XD

Some Casino Decks, with holes of course. The Bee deck has the lovely Caesar's logo on the backs, with the Bee in the corner.
Image

A Rabbit a Cat and an Owl walk into a bar. The Cat says 'Mow!' the Owl says 'Who?" and the Rabbit says nothing. Rabbits can't talk, silly. :P In all seriousness, I love the Cat and Owl decks. The Owl deck is very very used, but I only bought it recently. Used decks have a sort of 'well loved' feel about them.
Image

Other cards I couldn't really categorize. Yes, I know, faeries. I have nieces and these things end up in my world somehow. Harry Potter was my choice, however. That Club Nintendo card deck has the Animal Crossing characters on it. Club Nintendo stuff is highly collectible, I have a bunch of their other club rewards, like statues and buttons and stuff. And the Egyptian playing cards are very touristy.
Image

The whole collection. Its so small. :( But it will grow, bwahaha!
Image

These came with some of the used casino cards. Are these card holders or napkin holders? XD They look to fancy for napkins and they fit the card decks really well.
Image

Thats it, more to come eventually. Let me know if you want to see actual card backs and fronts, I'm not sure I want to share the casino decks since they have my city name on the backs, but the fronts sure. And the Cat deck cards are too cute NOT to share so I'll do that. Let me know which ones you want to see.

Looks like a card clip(s). Those are used to keep the deck both protected and readily accessible. Both collectors and cardists / performers use them. It's hard to say just from the picture how well these are made, but the best are very rigid to keep the cards held rightly in place. Are they metal or plastic?

Oh, neat! They're metal, I'm pretty sure. They clang a little bit like metal anyways. They're very pretty anyways and very stiff for sure. Not hard hard, I can flex them a bit to get the card deck in, but not much.

Thanks for the information, now I know something I didn't know before! :)

That's exactly how they should be - rigid enough to keep the deck tightly held and neat & clean, but it needs to be flexible enough to put the deck in without creasing the cards.

Neat. So I got something nice I didn't know I was getting. I got my cards at a thrift store near here. X) You never know what you're going to find!

Hiya Jenny :D
Thanks for showing your collection, i really enjoy seeing what other people have in their collection and reading how they came to own there decks.
Is that a tin the bunny cards are in ? Its a strange shape for a pack of cards ,what do the card faces look like ?
i have "the Dog" artist collection pack ,like your Cat one ,those are super cute too.

Remember there is no rush to buy every deck in the world, just collect what you like, not what other people say you should like 8-)

I look forward to seeing your collection grow ;)

Here are card faces, and some backs, and some interesting things .

The Cats. Some of my favorite cards, but I REALLY LOVE the entire deck, lol.

Image

@Jock1971 here's some pictures of the bunnies, they are in a tin, they are bunny shaped, only the court cards and ace of spaces have rabbits on them. There's also instructions for a rabbit themed game.

Animal Crossing:

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Cards

The Egyptian deck. I didn't want to take many pictures of it. Its mostly photographs and drawings of Egyptian stuff.

Image

Next is something pretty funny. This is my Gemaco casino deck, the court cards are VERY WEIRD!

The Kings! (Somebody is having a bad day!)
Image

The Queens! (When you see it, you will STARE!)

Image

The Jacks! (What's he leering at?)

Image

I thought those were funny. X)

Here's the Disney Faires courts and aces, they're all the same for each suit.

Image

And finally, the beautiful Bee cards from the Caesar's casino. I blacked out my town name, even though there aren't that many Caesars in Canada

Fun to see your cards; thanks for sharing. I never imagined the bunny cards would be in the same shape as the tin! Wild!

And you're right about those eyes on those eerie courts. Looks like the artist got a little heavy-handed with the black ink.

Cute kitties in that Artist Collection. I just may have to get that deck.

MORE DECKS!

Unread post by strangeseraph »

Just spoiled myself yesterday and today with more deck splurging. Again at Value Village, (a thrift store chain!) lots of used decks, and one NEW deck! Some very nice finds too! Lets get too it!

Casino Cards! I liked these cards a lot and they aren't from my town's casino so this is great! One is even from Las Vegas! (Is easily amused!)
Image

Magic Castle: These cards are standardized cards with a castle image on the deck. Apparently there was a generic card comany here at one point so I have a lot of these 'gold box' decks with some random custom ordered deck backs. I picked out the ones I liked and sent the rest to my charity donation box for the month. Those other days had like company and club logos for places I have never been to and never will. But I found two decks of cards from this company at Value Village that really stood out to me. This one:

Image

And this one. That says Max Maven on it, but the text on the card face has a name on it, I'm SURE that its the name of a doctor here in my town. Whoopsie! Anyways, I liked the backs on these.

Image

Next: A Bicycle in a Beehive! Lol, I opened this used bee deck box only to discover Bicycle cards inside. I liked them anyways, but I keep wondering if there's a Bicycle deck box out there with bee playing cards in it. Somewhere out there...

Image

Yes, this is my city Casino. Before Caesars came in. As I said, not many Caesars in Canada (1) so I've gotten over my sheepishness about showing my city name. Anyways, these cards would have been GORGEOUS! Except...there seems to be something wrong with one card. Hm. I wonder if you can spot it?

Image

If you guessed, the Ace of Diamonds, you are correct! :D Lol, it was weird going through this pretty deck then finding that one card is actually blue instead of red. Ah well. I now wonder where the red card went...

Image

On a more normal note, a nice red Bicycle deck. In a Bicycle playing card box. Well how about that?
Image

This deck of virgin islands cards came in a double box with some horse playing cards. But the horse deck is incomplete and so I'm not showing it off here. I found an empty deck box for this in my recent splurge and so its got its own case now anyways.

Image

She shoots....she SCORES!! OMG I FOUND MAPLE LEAFS OFFICIAL CARDS! (Breaths) Eh, they probably aren't worth much, but I AM a leafs fan. So this was a wheeeeeeee moment for me. :D

Image

Hee hee! Mini cards! Shame that one card is missing, I could use a joker, if these teensy cards were big enough to even play with!
Image

I hope you are all sitting for this. This next deck came in a drab white box labelled 'modern art' so I didn't know what to expect. Apparently its the New York Museum of Modern Art and when I saw this deck I was smitten completely. Everything else I've bought is worth this deck, as far as I'm concerned. But I'll let the pictures tell the tale.

Distressed Deck: I think that other deck has gotten me lost. I just want to go play cards now. Ahem, but there's one more deck to show off. Brand new deck, I bought it at Walmart, other users here have it, but I saw it and thought I'd snatch it up. I dunno, it looks more like its been spilled in coffee instead of being 'distressed' but maybe thats just me?

Thats it for now, I shall have more cards eventually, but I think I need to control my budget now, I shouldn't spend so much time in thrift stores. Then again, I did find some brand new loves there.....Go Leafs!!!....to the Museum! Then the Casino! Lol

Friend wanted to see the Owl faces, so here are a handful of them. Standard playing card faces, the courts seem a bit blah.

Image

And the backs, one more time, because the owls are just so gosh darn cute!

Fun thread. Especially the comments.

You;re off to a really good start! It's all about what YOU like afterall. The Gemaco deck is pretty peculiar. The courts tend to be kinda "off" as it is, particularly around the eyes but this one is slightly different from the ones I've seen.

Yeah, that distressed deck doesn't really convey the feeling of "old, dusty, found in grandpa's attic". Unlike the 1800 series which remains at the top of my favorite "old timey" look.
