Here's a cool early Torpedo box (1924-1929 based on tax stamp). Cards are Russell PCC, but I don't know if they are the original cards with the box or not. Anyway, I really love that box. At first I thought it was a seagull on the joker, but I haven't seen many seagulls hunting other birds. Anyone what kind of bird this is?
Also, here's another Russell PCC deck with the same back but different ace and joker from around the same time or even earlier given the Blue Ribbon whist ad card (see above for a Blue Ribbon whist deck). No box though. I had to get the Pinochle box, too, with the deck back usually associated with Torpedo brand (though the deck in the box is a mish-mash). Early on, mines were referred to as torpedoes. Only later did torpedo begin to refer exclusively to powered weapons in the water.
