[TylerGo] I don't have a problem...

Unread post by tylergo »

So I have been keeping an eye on the forum for a long while and figured it was time to share. I currently have all my decks out of frames as it was easier for moving cities. I have my decks organized into different groups. I have one bin that is just cards from places in the world that I have traveled to, an opened deck bin, a bin that is full of gimmick decks. I also use playing cards as gifts to friends and have a bin that is all duplicates that I plan on giving or trading away. I then have the decks that were framed and that I plan to frame. It is a long standing joke with my friends that “I don’t have a problem” with playing cards.

Open and gimmick decks are not included in these pictures.

Welcome! Nice collection there. Quite a few I know, but a few I don't recognize too. Although I'm pretty new at this myself.

What is the one in the bottom right, just above the Split Spades in this photo?

I think you are looking at Dan Sperry's crimson deck. If not let me know,

Thanks! Yes, I can see now that is it. Being upside down threw me off even more! Yet another tuck > cards deck, still nice though.

Those would be merz's safari decks. Yup they are in a series, they have a different back design like the design on the tuckbox, and standard faces with cliparty jokers etc. Correct me if im wrong =D

Nope, those are Merz67 “make a rare deck" decks, like the Trace decks and his "Santa maiden backs". I don't see a problem with it, but his selling techniques leave a lot to be desired. It goes back to what I have said before - it's as rare as he says it is IF you believe him. The problem there is that only he knows how many were made and whether or not they have been or will be reproduced in the future.

Crazy nice set of decks! I'm always amazed when I see some collections and I thought I had seen everything. There's always something different in almost every display because we all have our own tastes. That's what makes the world go round...

Sorry for the delay in my responses. I had my coworkers out of the office for a while which added a fair bit of load to my days. The beautiful thing is they brought me back a deck of cards!

The Safari decks are from Merz67 and to be honest when I got them I was a little disappointed about how much Merze67 was over the deck. I know for me it was cheaper getting quite a few decks at a time as the shipping to Canada can seem to kick me pretty hard at times.

Does anyone else find that it is an addiction? I find that I cannot stop. I am constantly on the look for other decks no matter how many are on order or how many I checked off my list of cards to buy. Do you guys have a preferred place to go for buying decks? I know that I am really hoping to find the bicycle “it’s a boy” deck.

It is kind of crazy that an old friend from when we were little also collects decks. Usually when I order a deck for myself I will add in another for him and he will do the same.

Tyler, this hobby IS an addiction! No way to dance around it, once you get bitten you've got the bug and there's no cure for it, either. I think we'll all agree that we spend too much!

Is there a place to post about ideas for displaying collections? I was almost wondering about using one of these for displaying a few.

General is a good starting point - maybe the DIY board (especially if you are planning to modify in anyway).

I looked at those too but was worried teh lip may be a bit too deep and hide the decks?

I don't have room for display but keep my decks in Helmer drawer units from Ikea. Ikea seems to have the best storage solutions for a low budget.

There have been many past threads on display methods. A general search with the keyword 'display' brings up pages of them. Vasta41 has display shelves in his Show Us Your Cards! thread: http://unitedcardists.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=5255

I believe we got into display and storage quite heavy on the forum last year. Someone even had a beautiful old library index card cabinet. Someone else had tilted the shelves in a shallow shelf unit by pegging the back of the shelf higher than the front. They had a small lip on the front edge to keep the decks in place. Was that MagikFingerz?

Would it be possible to see a close up of the decks in the first pic TylerGo?

I have two of these in white. The lip isn't a problem for me as I have the decks displayed on plate stands. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

Sorry for the delay. I forgot which thread this was in and had a devil of a time finding it.

I haven;t hung the second shelf yet. These are the exact same shelves you asked about. As you can see the wood plate stands work nicely. I got the plate stands at AC Moore for about $1.69 each.

Some updated pics of my wall display.

I added the second shelf and some swag I framed.

Thanks for the pictures! It is always nice to see how others are doing it. I have around 200 shadow boxes that can each hold 2 decks and been trying to think of the best way to put them up. Was wondering about placing them on shelf's.

I was thinking about shadow boxes as well but couldn't figure out how to mount the decks in the center without damaging them.
