Nearly thirty years old (1985), IIRC...
volantangel wrote:The oldest deck in my collection, deserves more than one photo =)
The oldest deck in my collection is from the 1880s, but I have a collector friend whose oldest deck is a round German deck with flower suits (roses, carnations, etcetera) from the late 1400s!!!

Here are images from that deck, in an archive.org copy of a page from the 52 Plus Joker web site:

Thanks guys, not totally into antique decks simply due to them being too expensive, the last pinochle deck was something i picked up along the way for a decently cheap price =)

Oh, come on now!

First you balk at using a paltry fifty million dollars worth of Faberge' eggs, and now you whine about antique decks being "too expensive"" after I post a link to images of one which is only what - six hundred years old?

What are you, a pauper?

(...says the man who is waiting for his disability check to come tomorrow before he spends around $60 on a handful of modern decks)

Tried something new in the afternoon, discovered shaky hands do not go well with balancing cards. My method is clear as day

Oh and the reason for these pictures are to show how far Paul has pushed the limits of the thin borders!!

Thanks Anthony !

The tuckbox of the Medallions are simply stunning, especially the back. Tried to highlight that in this picture.

With that picture, yes - that was a fantastic job of highlighting the gold foil and embossing. You can see the surface is three-dimensional in that shot.

Thanks Mikey ! Its always fun to try and outdo myself each time, to try and come up with new ideas on how to showcase a deck without elaborate equipment or setup.

Something simple for today.

Oh, I dunno, maybe:

There's currently more than 35,000 items if you search on "blacklight".
...but if you search on "blacklight" -"poster" -"posters" there's still more than 6,000 items.

Take photos of Grid 2.0, and also detect counterfit bills and urine stains. Win-win-win!!

Thanks guys for the complements !

Anyways Robert none of them would ship it halfway across the world, im sure ill find one if i dig around the stores hard enough :D

Lotrek, dont worry Grotesque will be given special treatment, i assure you =)

More experimenting is due, ill call it experiment week ! Trying different techniques and styles. Just FYI, the grid decks were done in a long exposure in a dark room with light from my phone and light trails behind the decks.

Doing the following picture on your own is not as easy as it seems :?

Haha are you ready for a lecture on photography ?

Equipment used
1 x DSLR
2 x Bike lights (1 white 1 red)
1 x lifted grilled platform (the thing the deck is standing on, was part of a bedside desk)
?? x Books or 1 x tripod

Camera Settings
Aperture F11
Shutter 8s
ISO 100

Method
This shot was done in a dark room (any room at night basically). The deck was made to stand at an angle on the grills. I had my camera focused on the deck, and level with the deck using a couple of books, important that its not hand held and is sitting on something or on a tripod so that you dont get shaky photos.

I placed the white bike light under the grills shining up at an angle so the light comes in through the grills to have that effect and light up the bottom half of the deck. i held the red bike light in my hands and have it shining top-down and into the deck on the left and upper half of the deck.

Inspiration/Ideology behind the photo
The red was made to represent blood/fire(destruction) on which an empire is built, after all the carnage we start to see a glimpse of the glory from the birth of the new empire represented by the white light.

Something tells me that my $30 phone camera and a bedside lamp shone through some venetian mini blinds probably won't get quite the same results. :(
