The jokers are so often missing for these older decks since they are not used in so many games. Still I often check the sellers sales to see if they are listing jokers separately - a questionable practice but it is unfortunately done sometimes.

A very good price for a deck this old. Have you looked to see what the jokers look like? Sometimes they are not as good as the rest of the deck anyway.

Hi Again, Here is the first of Four English decks i`ve recently got hold of. Its a 1977 reprint by Waddingtons Playing Card Co Ltd called "Shakespearean Playing Cards"
IMG_0001.jpg
The Card Back,The Joker and The Ace of Spades

The Tuck is all White with a picture of the Ace of spades on the front and a picture of the card back on the back there is no other writing or pictures on the box.The card back has the inscription "Have i not here the best cards for the game"
IMG_0002.jpg
The Spades and Hearts

This deck is a reprint of an 1902 deck i think published by Benrose & Sons and was designed by F.C Tilney, all information about this deck can be found at a.trionfi.eu/WWPCM/decks03/d01374/d01374.htm
IMG_0003.jpg
The Diamonds and Clubs

The court cards are chosen from Shakespeare`s plays so as to fall within a classificatio that the Pips may be assumed to typify. Thus The Hearts = The gentler emotions,The Diamonds = Wealth or Greed, The Clubs = Aggressiveness and Strife and The Spades = The Tragic methods of schemers. All court cards has a quotation from the character depicted. Thanks for looking :D

IMG_0005.jpg
Spades

Fifty-Four artists and illustrators were asked to creatr a vivid image celebrating an aspect of the natural world with particular emphasis on the tropical rainforests.
IMG_0006.jpg
Hearts

Some of the pips on the cards are easy to find others are more difficult.
IMG_0008.jpg
Diamonds

Its only the numerical cards which must adhere to the rules of transformation,as you can see the courts and joker do not necessarily have to have transformed pips
IMG_0007.jpg
Clubs

The Back of the tuck reads "Art for the Earth playing cards are believed to be the first in the world to be printed on 100% recycled card". The deck was made in 1992.
Once again thanks for looking :D
P.S love the new smilies Paula very well done :ugdance: especially  -Jase-

Thanks for the compliment on the smilies Jase :D . I was mostly streamlining, and tweeking, someone else's work on the original UC smilies, but the drooler is my own. Just seemed like a natural for UC.

That great joker in your Grants deck reminds me of another deck, which I will put up soon in France. It also reminds me of the Upside-Downs comic strip, from around 1904, that was peopled by 2-bodied figures like those jokers. You have to turn the comic strip upside down to read the last half of the story. I have a lot of books of old graphics like comics and advertising.

Your Bells deck courts are not happy drinkers. Are they advertising a way to drown your worries?

Edit: found an image of the Upside-Downs. The second one shows the same image rotated 180.
