Encyclopaedia of Playing Card Flourishes - Herrmann cut

Unread post by Captain Sunshine »

I'm currently going back through the encyclopaedia learning all the cuts and flourishes I've missed. Right now I'm working on the Herrmann cut, but I can't find an example or mention of it anywhere outside the book. Does this particular cut have a more common, or different name? I'm really looking for an example of someone performing it, as although I can do it, it's not my neatest nor most consistent cut.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, or provide an example, I'd be very grateful. :D

On a related note, are the names of card flourishes ever standardised, or is it just a case of whatever becomes popular tends to stick?

I think it's more commonly used as a pass, but that uses two hands of course and the idea is to hide the movement as much as possible. I've never heard of that particular cut outside the Encyclopaedia.

As for your last question, I think sadly it's usually the latter.

I've seen many tutorials explaining the pass, but none of the cut. I might have to get really good at it and do the first one! Even though I haven't mastered it yet, I feel my control of the deck has definitely improved; it not an easy manoeuvre.

I feared that may be the case, but I guess it adds extra character to an already very colourful art form. Still, when searching for a video or forum regarding a particular move, it can be infuriating :D

Thanks

I guess the only option then is the companion DVDs, but they really only show the flourishes without instruction :?

As ridiculous as it sounds, that never occurred to me... :?
I'll look into it.

Thanks for your advice
