Agree! A fully complete MODERN art deco deck that uses this 'navigator' back and custom face cards would be amazing if Jackson puts it out. I'll settle though for a standard deck using this 'navigator' back for now though. It's quite possibly my favorite back designs, plus it's pretty blue! Please use this back in the future and SUPER PLEASE consider doing a proper modern art deco deck with this look. That is one that I and others obviously are pulling for in this thread, plus some other ideas for you Jackson! http://unitedcardists.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4733

EDIT - Just look how awesome this design is. Seriously, DO THIS! :ugdance:

I like the idea of an Art Deco deck but wouldn't that be trespassing on Paul's Deco deck?

I like your professional courtesy! Perhaps this isn't the best time to start the public design for a full art deco deck, but you can start thinking about doing one after Paul's project has wrapped up. It's also possible for you both to have different takes on that theme as well - if his is historic, yours can be retro-modern; if his is style and geometry, yours can be face cards of people, buildings, fashion, cars of the era; etc.. Competition is usually a good thing, but I would agree waiting some time would be best for all involved. Just start thinking about it and I ask you quietly start planning and I hope you'll have an announcement in 6-12 months (or sooner).

For the record, I'm buying BOTH if you both do one though, so from my perspective we ALL win.

I'm not sure what you mean. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but Paul's Deco decks were Kickstarted July of last year. The Signature Editions are actually sold out on his website.

EDIT: I meant STANDARD decks... darn autocorrect.

I'm still learning names around here and I assumed Jackson was referring to this future art deco style project - Nuevo. There might be direct competition there and is what I meant, but I don't see any problem with stepping on toes with the Deco set (which actually from Paul). That's a traditional art deco style and one that is complete. I'm hoping Jackson considers a retro-modern / art deco revival style deck so that's different anyhow, especially if he does custom court figures in his style. We also don't know more about that Nuevo deck yet, so depending on how/when that flushes out maybe Jackson can consider taking this up. It's Jackson so it will sell and with that Navigator style back used all around, mmmmmmm. :ugdance: Then again, Nuevo could be what us art deco people are looking for with a modern take on that style.

I haven't seen anything to indicate that Nuevo is Jackson's work.

Don't think anybody implied that. I simply thought when Jackson was concerned with trespassing on "Paul's deck" he meant the Nuevo deck in design stages and not the proper KS one that is complete. I'm not sure who is doing the Nuevo one, but perhaps system6 as volantangel stated.

Hello again. I am writing this post in an effort to genuinely and honestly try to open a constructive conversation with the UC community in an effort to mend bridges. I am open to civil questions and discourse in an effort that I might answer them. I can't promise I will remember every detail about every question, it has been almost 2 years since the last time I was here but will try to be as transparent and honest as possible.

Wish the best,
Jackson

Wow, you found an old thread in our discussion dungeon.

We have fed most of the offending persons to the alligators in my back yard. Some new folks like me, read through all of the old posts and couldn't figure out what all the hullabaloo was about anyway.

Now, I just need to get one of those slots for the monthly experimental decks. Now if I DON'T get one of those slots, WATCH OUT! Just kidding. Sort of.

Ha! Thanks. I think I have all the technical stuff worked out... fingers crossed it works like it is supposed to.

I'm still new here, but, I'm glad you're back! I am a big fan of many of your decks.

I am also eagerly awaiting the chance to score a subscription.

P.S. Any chance you might release a Navy themed deck?! :D

New Back design I'm working. I'm calling this deck "Crimson Stripe" The plan is for it to be Gold Metal Lux on the back.

I like this a lot. I'm curious, though, if the very fine lines (such as those emanating in waves from the circle in the middle) might be a bit too fine for Metalluxe to handle? I love the detail line work; it would be a shame to dumb it down if Metalluxe can't handle it.

Good point for sure. You would be surprised at how fine lux can go. It's better than hot stamp for sure but not quite cold foil.

Uspcc will most likely make me beef them up a bit but I will probably do an ink version because ill have to sale blood to pay the premium for lux. So the design here will see the light as well.

One if the points from the get go for this design was I wanted to completely fill the area with line work. So if I have to compromise to much and lose my originally intended affect I'll just have to wait on kux till another design.

Ha! I went back and read the uspcc lux guidelines... :( I will most likely have to pass on lux for this one. I basically break every rule.

Maybe this would be a good candidate for your first Cartamundi cold foil deck?

Also, I agree that doing this with USPCC's metallic gold inks could be truly amazing.

Thanks!

Here is a shot of the current tuck case art. I'm planning on changing the name to "Gentleman". The plan is for the tuck case and separate wrapping band to be intaglio engraved with metallic gold ink. The same shop that did all of Alex's engraved tucks is on board with me. I still have art to do for the flap and a pattern to create for the inside. We will also duplex red paper stock on the inside with a gold printed pattern of some sort.

I chatted with both USPCC and Cartimundi about doing the back in Metal Lux or Cold foil. I'm waiting on seeing some test runs to see if it is possible. I have never worked with Cartimundi, this might be a good first chance.
