I thought some of you might like this. I'm not sure I agree with some of the psychological answers, but then again, I'm nuts!

That was a cool video, thanks for sharing.

I do agree with you on the psychological bit though, particularly the claim that we replace our mother with objects. That may or may not be part of a baby's development, but it's a baseless stretch to say it's related to why we collect things. It would kind of be like saying babies breastfeed, therefore everything that a human being puts into their mouth is a replacement for breastfeeding.

Extremely interesting.
Thank you so much for posting this.

I see some of the psychoanalysis as bunk. But I usually do.
Freud with his love of holding in fecal matter and mommy issues and all.

Still I know where my collecting addiction comes from. And it is psychological. OCD runs in the family. My father and Mother (to some degree) were collectors. They took me to auctions and flea markets from the time I was little. It is hereditary and a learned behavior. I was doomed from the start.
Luckily it is not a full blown case of hoarding disorder. Just in the minor vein. I can recognize and discard crap. Although I do put value in some things that others would see as useless, maybe even trash, my home is not a writhing heap of rotting whatever.

This video makes me want to start posting in my "Fool's Gold" thread again.
To document and share all my collections for those who may care.
Maybe I will.
