Surviving the "biblical" rains & floods

Unread post by Mike Ratledge »

Well, I have reliable cellular service this morning, after 5 days of spotty - if any - coverage.

You've likely seen the stories. Depending on your news source, you heard about 11.5" rain Saturday at the Charleston Airport where the weather service measures official rainfall, 26.88" over three days in Mount Pleasant which is 20 miles south of me and across the Cooper River northeast immediately of Charleston. Cainhoy, the nearest reporting station to me had 29.83" and now we're cut off from town because of the flood waters here on the coast where water from 18 broken damn and upwards of a foot of rain hundreds of miles inland, around Columbia, Kingstree and Edisto.

I try to stay away from hyperbole these days, but to say it's a mess is an understatement.

I guess we wouldn't be so detached if I didn't have to depend on satellite TV, Internet and phone too when the cell tower is out, but I live 20 miles from the nearest cable.

Two important deck campaigns and the likely very rare Gran Riserva of Nouveau & Bourgogne decks coming in the next few days. I will take that to the appropriate forum.

Glad to hear you are Ok. I was worried. I'm not that far north of you and have heard the reports. Let me know if I can help in any way.

The numbers are astounding, practically unreal - but real.

The National Weather Service stated that the total amount of rain over the weekend was 11 trillion gallons, or more than 42.000.000.00,liters.

Given 7.2 billion living people on earth right now, it's more than a gallon for each for 4 years, or one liter every day for 16 years.
