Today my wife, or as I call her "the enabler", bought me a bunch of casino decks at the local dollar store. I'm new to collecting so I thought I'd ask you experts a few questions. Do many folks collect these? What should one look for in a casino deck? I'm familiar with Jerry's Nugget, of course (none of those in this batch, unfortunately). Aside from those, are some casinos more prized than others? Popular vs. obscure? I'm guessing there is not much resale value in your average casino deck. I plan on using them for cardisty practice, which will wear them out pretty quick. Any reason not to? If anybody out there does collect casino decks and needs any of the ones I have, I'd be willing to part with them for the cost of shipping. Thanks in advance for you help.
I guess I should list them here to save time:

Re: Casino Decks
I have a deck or two of Casino decks but I'm not really into collecting them. But if I was going to buy Casino, I look for brand new decks of Casinos that are closed/demolished. That way it adds more "historical" value and in a way makes the deck a conversation piece.

Re: Casino Decks
What your wife bought are very likely modern, decommissioned decks. Their relative value is on par with the fact that they're selling at the dollar store. Dollar Stores here in New York do the exact same thing. I'm sure by now you've noticed that one of the corners has been snipped. Or on some cases they've drilled through the center of the entire deck.
When it comes to collectability of these decks, it really boils down to the individual. Some collect every casino deck they can get their hands on, others collect decks of casinos they've visited, and like myself I collect any with peculiar and interesting designs as well as ones I've visited.

Re: Casino Decks
Thanks for the replies, gentlemen. That's pretty much what I expected. I had heard about the clipped edges. With this batch, I'm finding the degree of clipping varies greatly. Some corners are slightly clipped while one deck has about an 1/8" hacked out of the corner. And one deck has random cards clipped at the opposite corner, making handling a bit rough.
I don't plan on collecting casino cards per se but since I've suddenly got a bunch, I would be interested in hearing what anyone else has to say. Thanks again.
