eBay.com hacked: UPDATED - CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD!

Per the following article published this morning, all of the eBay.com accounts were potentially compromised and everyone should immediately change their password!

Not nearly as bad as originally reported: "After conducting extensive tests on its networks, the company said it has no evidence of the compromise resulting in unauthorized activity for eBay users, and no evidence of any unauthorized access to financial or credit card information, which is stored separately in encrypted formats. However, changing passwords is a best practice and will help enhance security for eBay users.".

I suppose "out of abundance of caution" everyone should change their password - just in case they're wrong.

The hack occurred over 2 months ago... They were pretty slow in figuring it out

Going to miss my old one though - always gave me a laugh using it. Not going to tell you why though since I might find somehwere else to use it.

Just read the article. This is coming 2 weeks after they discovered the breach?!? And like badpete says 2 months after the actual hack?!!? And I still haven't heard this from ebay themselves. Pretty shoddy. Thanks again Mike for the heads-up.

Guys & gals, I get a daily security capsule from the Department of Homeland Security and it often tells me about things that still have not hit the press, yet.

After reading even more, I made this a sticky/global announcement for ten days.

It seems that they downplayed a lot of things and there were several holes you could drive a truck through! (Whether or not they admit it).

If you have not already changed it, do it now!

Yep, they did finally get around to posting a notice on their website and sending email out. I'd prefer to find out about things like this the day after it happens rather than 2 weeks (2 month?) later!

If you used the same login and password on other sites, it'd be a good idea to change those passwords too.

I started using LastPass because of this kind of thing (and losing track of logons and passwords). I can highly reccommend it.

(The two stage logon and Phone App features are really useful too)
