New Design

Unread post by JayLosa »

Viva Mexico was a success and many if not all have already received their decks, so I would now like to present to you a new design Adrian and I are working on. We still have no name for it. We love to hear your honest opinions, after all, Viva Mexico would not look the way it does if it wasn't for all of you.

I like it, especially the courts. Seems to me that it wouldn't be too hard making those courts two-way, since you're excluding the intimate areas for most of them already. And there are probably ways of doing it for those who have them too. I think the art style used will make the transitions relatively easy to do.

The back is underwhelming as it is right now, because I can't really see anything in it. I would either add shading or colors to make the imagery in it pop out more, or choose more prominent imagery.

Thank you so much MF, I will pass this a long to Adrian, I already mentioned the 2 way court cards and he's really set on them being one way, I've made peace with it, we will discuss the back design as well. Again, Thank you

Not to be one of those guys, but two-way design is pretty important to me. It's what separates "art on playing cards" and "playing card art". Courts and back design, in my mind, should be mirrored at least to some degree for it to be worth collecting.

But I'm not speaking for everyone; if the art is good enough it can eclipse being one-way.

Is it me or could the font match the deck a little bit more?

You have an interesting shard theme but the deck font is just too straight and sturdy, a font that has sharp points or even slightly italic would fit more I think.

"Golem" ?

I guess you could have a 2nd version of the deck as a stretch goal with two way courts...

I like the "stone people" courts and pips. One way is fine by me since 2-way would lose so much detail IMO.
Great Jokers! Makes me think "What the heck is coming out of these things?" creepiness.

The back needs something. I kind of see the face but overall it's nondescript to me. And NCarter is right about the font matching the deck more.
Move on, nothing to see here.

It looks good, bold. I miss a story to tie the design and the courts. Maybe it's just coming!
