K-Lux Playing Cards - opinions?

Unread post by KaneBallard »

I need help either choosing over these two designs i have created? Or if neither then say neither and what i could do to improve them!
This is a simple back design because thats what i like! Such amazing decks have very simple back designs e.g Brown wynn, Ace foultens etc...

Just out of curiosity. Where does the Klux name come from?

I did the simple design for myself and had no idea where to start so i used the letter 'K' because its the first letter of my name, Lux was then from Luxury.

Not to be the PC police here. But, you know how sometimes a word can be inoffensive in some places but can carry heavy connotations in another?

Might just be an unfortunate coincidence, but the way it's spelled, the pronunciation would be "clucks". Technically the word is meaningless until you add the ku at the beginning. But you get what I'm getting at.

Might I suggest a hyphen of sorts in between? So it's pronounced "Kay lux"?

Again, I'm sure that's unintentional. But best be on the safe side.

Yeah, you can never be too careful. I had approved your thread but some concerns were raised so I wanted to make sure everything was fine and dandy. Welcome to the forums by the way!

I prefer the more stylized design on the top. :)

If you use the top image, maybe circles instead of squares. You have a minimalistic design, but do you want your fan to have a simple red color?

Yeah i'll see what that looks like, I was thinking a thin white line just on the inside of the red, almost like S&M, but some people said they preferred the plain colour.

Um.. Klux sounds way too close to the KKK (and unless you write out the Kay-Lux pronunciation people will think Klux as in the clan) and that first back design makes me think of a Swastika so if I were you I'd probably start over with both.
Yes, I might be the guy you remember from that thing at that place way back when.

Usually I would say whatever people read into anything if they want, but the spelling and that the logo looks like at least 2 K letters might make the association. Not even remotely an issue to me, but there's lots of overly sensitive people that read into the slightest thing and turn them into big issues. If you can avoid it you might avoid dealing with the drama. The suggestion of 'Kay-Lux' or even 'K-Lux' would minimize that.

Agreed with what's been said already. I don't care in most cases like these since I have no personal connection to the things in question, but the fact is that if enough people are offended by it or get uncomfortable it's just not worth it.

Btw I think an apostrophe might not be enough, the hyphen and capitalizing the L like ecNate suggested ought to do it though (K-Lux).

I'll have to say the first one, mainly because the K's of the second one are too obvious. I'm not too big on minimalist designs like these though.
